favourite things! What are? Well, paint, stamping, flowers, torn papers and hearts. It's Monday (yes again) and it's time for a new challenge theme over at
Simon Says Stamp & Show where you get to go mad and freestyle it as it's all about your favourite.
l really had to have a think and eventually I decided to go for what seemed to be "in' on my desk at the mo. In all honesty that would actually be dust and dirty stamps, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting piece so I went with master-boards.
I have a very eclectic style and have acquired a wide range of styles of stamps over the years... I also have a thing about being consequent when creating and don't really like to mix up too many different stamp designs in one piece. But then that makes it hard to choose as they are all so great... Enter the master-board!
Now of course a master-board is nothing new but with all the fabulous new colours, products, sprays and journalling influences around I think they could make a come-back. It also is the ideal stamping ground (ha ha) for combining both your best-loved and dormant stamps. The great thing about a master-board is the freedom it gives to just play around building up layers and textures without being too fussy. The idea is to cut it into smaller sections for use on a card or die-cut it like I did.
l like how the random patterns and colours come into their own once they are cut down. I took apiece of A4 card and went with a base of Sky Blue Studio Paint from Claudine Helmuth, followed by gesso bottle top rings, dots from Mr. Tim and then Wendy Vecchi leaves, flowers and letters... mixing up my use of both paint and ink.
I thought some 'hearty' flowers would look good and it would also give me a chance to add some stitched stems as I do love a bit of sewing. I tore up some dictionary papers for the background, gave them a coat of watery gesso to whiten them and added a splash of Dylusions ink for a bit of colour. The Wendy words are stamped on sticky back canvas, mounted on card, to give a bit more texture. A whizz around the edges with the sewing machine and distressing tool and we are good to go.
