Weekend Whatchamacallit stuff...

Hello there,
Tis weekend, tis a Bank Holiday one and tis a not so very sunny one. Such is the tradition over in here in Queen Lizzy land. My 'to do' list breeds overnight it seems, so the dismal weather may actually be a blessing... DT deadlines, shopping, decorating and baby stuff.
If only I did as much doing as I do contemplating. I would be a happy woman! I'm glad to say the coughing bug is at last fading, only to have been swiftly replaced by another...
The Art Journalling Bug and I think I got it bad doc.
I'm still finding my way, fishing out what works for me and just letting things evolve.
I really admire the style of artists such as Roben-Marie Smith, Donna Downey and Traci Bautista. I like their wild and colourful freestyle attitude and as I said recently, it is a real chance for me to just play and express myself next to all the DT work.
l don't have many journalling supplies so I'm just using what I have and just grabbing what comes to hand. Color Wash, paint, Glimmer Mists, gesso, inks... I've signed up for an online course with Roben-Marie Smith...
so I think a splash of cash on stash is on the horizon as I would really like to discover much more about colours, texture and mediums.
lt's been ages since I've joined in with some Tim stuff so I'm making an effort and seeing as I got the Compendium of Curiosities Book 2 from Santa I should really blow the dust off it. This week the theme chosen by Linda over at Studio L3 is Faded Layers. Sounds more like my housework at the mo...!
It involves using masks of which my cup does not over floweth. I have a few but I also fancied trying out my own ideas too so I used die-cuts of Tim hearts and butterflies.
As you can see I was still coming down from the thrill of my journal pages so the tags are a bit splatty too. The effect is quite subtle but I like it. Here I used Broken China, Spiced Marmalade and Shabby Shutters with splashes of both water and Stream Color wash. The white dots are stamped in Picket Fence Distress Stain.
This one is a little more subdued but I still like the faint images of the butterflies. Here I used Fired Brick and Peeled Paint with a little Stormy Sky to darken the red and splashes of Sunset Orange Color Wash.

If you have lots of dies, you could keep going all year!  I suppose you could use almost anything to ink around really. Well, within reason!?
Nothing fancy, just two simple tags but lots of playtime. Grab it while you can! Hasta maƱana...
Sarah

Love the colours you have used on your journal pages. I adore Donna Downey and never fail to be amazed by how she just slaps things on and they look like a work of art! Your tags are gorgeous and it is a great idea to use die cuts as this really does extend the old stash. Love your work. Anne x

Gorgeous - love those bright vibrant colors, Sarah. I have a hard time using them myself, but you are doing wonders with them. I just bought a pack of the TH mask sheets to make my own masks with the dies and it works fab - very cheap way to go too!

Beautiful and inspiring work as always!

Hugs,
Linda
