Rustification and all that jazz...

You only have to blink and there it is... Monday yet again! I hope you all had a great weekend and are in the mood for a bit of the rusty stuff. It's a new week and challenge theme at Simon Says Stamp & Show and if you haven't guessed, then the picture is a right giveaway! We're getting all rusty and I couldn't be happier with such a theme.  

 Ooooh, rusty... my kingdom for an old tin then! I just love altering tins and I was very happy when hubby came back from the shed with an old bicycle repair kit tin. Gimmee, gimmee. It was covered in red and white paint so I started with a good session of sanding which is pretty tough work. You don't need it to be completely bare as a bit of random paint adds to the old look.

Then I used a mix of Ranger Alcohol Inks and a really old paint brush to give the tin it's new colour. I just allow drops to fall onto the tin and keep moving the brush around as they dry to mix the colours and vary the effect.

 When dry I randomly patted embossing ink on to the lid and sprinkled on Vintage Photo Distress Powder. I roughed up any straight lines, heat set it until it was dry and then added more drops of Alcohol ink to create that rusted effect.

 As you can see it has a trim of Ball Chain around the bottom which was a bit fiddly. It isn't glued but held together at the back with an attacher (that comes with the set). I cut the chain to size, joined it with the attacher, and then managed (with a struggle) to stretch it over the tin. Wow! It fitted, lucky old me.

The grunge roses are created using the Tattered florals die, metal foil tape sheets stuck to card which I then embossed. The roses and a few Idea-ology foloage leaves were given the same old rustification treatment as the tin (as they looked far too shiny and new) as well as a bit of bashing or should I say "creative shaping"...

When I put them all on the tin they looked bit lost and needed something to connect them to the tin. I had a think and then thought of chicken wire, a bit of old hessian and a scrap of vintage lace. A touch of Alcohol Ink on the wire and Distress Ink on the other two helped them fit in with the vintage mood.

 You have to have a few feel good words and I thought a inky Word Band was the perfect finishing metal touch. The brads ends have been snipped off so I could glue it in place and get it to lie flat. I wanted to give the tin a little more height so I used eight bolt nuts to create mini-legs which evened out the proportions. Ta daa! All done! One altered tin and one satisfied, inky fingered lady.
