A Little Craftiness...

Just popping in with a little one... No, I haven't given birth yet...just an ATC! I planned to have this done by lunch time but got side-tracked tweaking a DT piece which is the story of my life. Grungy Monday is all about ATCs this week and there's lots of hearty stuff on the go at the mo, so I made time for to dabble and put a lotta love into a little space... I don't do a lot of green but thought I'd put the sepia tones to one side for a day!

I had lots of Tissue Wrap scraps from a project (coming Monday!) and used them to create a textured background. I glued the scraps to the ATC base, added some Gesso with my finger and a spritz of Lettuce Color Wash. When dry I added Black Soot ink, a little Viva Gold to the wrinkles.

I zig zagged around the edges and then piled on the goodies including shabby hearts using this Tim technique. Then Grunge wings, touches of Idea-ology and a few embossed copper words... I stapled an off-cut of Ball Chain to the card as well as adding a wrap of thin wire..

I'm also just making the deadline for Snazzy's great new challenge blog and Hel's Sunday Stampers hearts theme...

WOYWW? Thankyous and Gingersnaps!

'Tis Wednesday and the fairest day of the week in Blogpost Kingdom. Peruse and behold many a crafty domain whilst displaying thine own wares courtesy of The Noble Damsel Julia.
I'd like to start by saying a HUGE and VERY HEARTFELT THANK YOU INDEED to everyone for such wonderful words and reactions to my WOYWW post last week about our little miracle. It took me a while to muster up the courage to share things but all the fabulous words and wishes were truly amazing. I'm still trying to get round to everyone and here we are again... so it's on with the show!

There's seems to be a bit of everything going on at La De Dah this week...
Firstly, I'm very pleased to say I'm a Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations in February.

This week the technique is all about masking tape. I created a vintage tag in good old sepia tones. I made rolled roses using twisted lengths of tape aged with Distress Ink.

I used quite a wide tape so I folded it on itself which makes it very strong and able to survive a good twisting and pulling. It actually takes ink quite well if you give it a good blast with the heat gun and if you want to stamp it then go for Stazon ink and you get a great imprint! Make your own tissue tape I say...!

I'm also really pleased to say I've had more work published in the March Craft Stamper Magazine! A double page special on Inchie cards and a small piece in the Gallery. I want to say a big Thank you to Chrissie and Mandi from Less is More because although I like the CAS style very much it was the start of their great challenge blog that really prompted me to really get into it!

Bootiful Budget Birdies...all going cheep!

Brace yourselves folks...I'm doing cute!!!! It's Monday so we're off the starting block with a new challenge theme at Simon Says Stamp & Show! Fancy a tasty recipe but not the washing up? Well, this is one for you...torn edges, Distress inks, buttons and wings.

After a hefty stint of Grungy makes lately, I was in the mood for a little fabric frenzy and 'something completely different'. Theoretically, despite the snowstorms, we are heading for Spring. I couldn't quite stretch to bunnies but I do think fat birdies are rather sweet.

I stamped Wendy's Vecchi's fabulous gingham design onto canvas fabric in Ranger Archival inks.

I used Saffron Yellow and Monarch Orange for two birds and a mix of the two to create an in between tone.

I drew my own birdy template. My first looked like whales and then fish, but I got there. It's all in the tail I say!

I cut out six birds and six wings (the birdy backs were cut from plain canvas). Then I grabbed my kitchen roll...

I sewed the top piece to 8 squares of kitchen paper going around twice and trimmed off the excess.

I placed the back on, sewed around again and roughed up the edges adding colour with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink.

I sewed the two wings together without any wadding and stuck them on with Matt Medium. The button 'bonnets' are made with the two smaller flowers cut with Tattered Florals and are stamped with Alphabetically Art. I used brass studs for eyes and finished everything off with little stamped labels before sewing them all onto a strip of jute ribbon.

Once a year, I'm allowed to be girly...and I still think they are very sweet! So that's my 'crafty' culinary take on things. Check out the great creations from the Design team here! Flip-Top and Fashion Frolics...

They say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..." I'd like to add "Sanity is in the head of a crafter"... Hubby comes home last night, not feeling well and announces his retreat to the sofa. "That's fine", I reply. "I've got a flip-top man I need to do." All makes perfect sense to me.

I'm up to my ears with DT work but planned in a little "me" time with a tag. I've been a Vecchitarian for a while now and hopefully lots of you have seen Hels showing off the Art of Wendy Vecchi Loveliness on TV. All the goodies really are bundles of fun and with Lori at Everything Wendy Vecchi inviting us to make a fun piece, well, it's almost Mardi Gras.

The back ground is one of my faves, a dictionary page, swooshed with Picket Fence Distress Stain and stamped with Wendy Circle Bubbles. They've faded a bit (boo) so I used Stazon to stamp the alphabet. I Played around with the Seriously Art set and mini scallops adding a few extra layers to give Mr. Moustache more depth and extra ventilation.

I added lots of bits and bobs, and a few rounds of stitching. All a bit wacky but lots of fun and by dropping an "S", I conjured up some silly, but fitting words. Maybe I should send it to Gok Wan. As said, by bubbles are a bit on the anaemic side, (need to do some ink and Distress Stain detective work) but I was hoping they'd still make the grade for Sunday Stampers. And it's definitely a Guy Thing so I'm hopping on the Fashionable Stamping Challenges Bus too!

Hello and welcome to February! Further into the new year we venture, with a hint of Spring in the air. Are you raring to go or still finding your crafty feet? Whatever your crafty passion may be, do feel welcome and enjoy being creative in your own way. I'm hoping my Heartstrings will inspire both your own artful heart and Mojo! Firstly, let's talk to My Featured Artist, the very artful and sincere Tracy Evans...

FIVE QUESTIONS TO MY FEATURED ARTIST...

I'm sure many of you have already encountered Tracy's wonderful work. I absolutely love her unique, creative style.
Every piece fashioned with love, imagination and fabulous detail. Every inch and tone a real joy to admire...

Who is Tracy Evans in five words? Tracy in my own words is passionate, individual, motivated, thoughtful and loyal.
Where are you right now as an artist? I still continue to develop my art and feel I always will, I would like to think I am quite individual in my style, which can range from grungy to vintage to clean and simple with a love for the embellished look in my creations. I am very passionate about crafting and strive to continue to perfect my style on an on going basis, I don't think I will ever stop trying to grow in my creative ventures. I would love to think I inspire others In some small way to have a go at creating, that is what motivates me on a daily basis. I find nothing more satisfying than taking a rubber stamp and a piece of plain paper and transforming it into a unique individual piece with my stamp on each creation.

Which of your creations is closest to your heart? In many ways, all of my creations have a special place in my heart...The first piece, The Sewing Room I love as it shows my love of embellishments and I love the vintage pieces and the sewing theme. Secondly, a recycled book cover (below) for Simon Says, which again shows my love of earthy tones and the bits and pieces I love to use in my art. (I actually quite like it, which for me does not happen often.) I also collect hearts and love anything heart related, so this piece above really appeals to me especially the shape.

Where do you find inspiration when feeling Mojoless?
My garden is a great inspiration to me from colours, shapes and forms. I love to see colour combinations in nature especially from plants that have self sewn in the garden creating their own unique colour partnerships. I also find fashion can inspire me from fabrics, patterns and colours. Home magazines can also play a part in my creativity and I find a good sort out in my craft room often leads to some creative play, either from old or new products I had forgotten about or simply from the motivation I get working in an organised space. I love to be organised!
You are going back-packing in the Himalayas for a year and may only take 3 crafting items. Which - and why? Anyone who knows me will be thinking I would need to be knocked out to even get me to the Himalayas. LOL! I do not travel well. However, if I did manage it I would need my Distress Ink Pads (is that one?), card stock so I could then create on the move and a notebook enabling me to make notes of any ideas that spring to mind on my travels, from the wonderful scenery, nature, buildings, ready to use in my creations when I return.

Thank you so much for sharing your inspiring and heartfelt creativity Tracy! Last month we were just getting started again...maybe this month you're finding your way, but also rather overwhelmed by the wave of wonderful new crafty goodies and products on their way. With Heartstrings we going a bit shabby. I want to encourage you to rethink a golden oldie - the heart, plunder the stash you DO have and also discover the potential in cheap, everyday materials. I'm starting with a variation on the banner! But with hearts and wood instead of flags and string to create a a piece of home décor. I cut five primitive hearts from old card, covered them in vintage magazine scraps and white washed them with cheap acrylic paint. I like the random patterns and shading you get from magazines. I distressed and stitched the edges and adding some alphabet stamping.

The double layered Tattered Florals flowers are die-cut from old brown paper, inked up with Pumice Stone and then spritzed with water. I gave them a good crumpling, dried them, swiped over more ink and added a touch of Gold Perfect Pearls. The shabby layers are scraps of chicken wire stapled to the heart and wait for it, a muslin gauze bandage nabbed from the first aid kit!

I coated it in white paint and when dry you can shape it to create great textured effects. The silver scrapbook letters are from a cheap sale. I gave them a bashing, 'rusting' them with Distress Embossing Powder and Alcohol Ink. The hearts are then wrapped in brown garden string and I added a few extras including a 'Granny' hair clip! You could hang them individually on pegs, turn the wood vertically or still go for a string or wire...
It's all up to you!

I have a weakness for buttons! I collect, scavenge and beg them but they're missing their true potential living in a chutney jar. I covered an 8" canvas in torn layers of ordinary tissue paper using plenty of matt medium adhesive, dried it well, added two coats of cheap gesso and then swiped it with Antique Linen Distress Ink to pick out the details.

I glued lace and cotton ribbon to the canvas before creating a heart collage of buttons. I chose creams and whites of various sizes, starting with the outer line, then filling in the centre. I used matt medium as it dries clear and gives you the chance to move things around if needed. To give it a little 'grunge' I wrapped around some wire, added rusty nails, a metal finding and hung it from a sink plug chain which make fabulous hangers. All pretty cheap stuff from a 'blokes' hardware store.

Time for a card this month... Can I say I love it?! I covered card stock in dictionary pages and die cut three hearts making sure I 'caught' certain words. I placed a little scrap over the word, inked up the rest of the heart and added some stamping before distressing the edges.

They 'hang' from a scrap of crochet lace and I also added a button. They looked too bare on a plain card base and needed some 'grounding', so I machine stitched a few random lines which did the trick. Just a little inking and distressing to finish off. You could do this in any colour, any shape and with all sorts of papers, design papers, books and even stamped sentiments...mask, ink and be merry!

WOYWW? Something special in the make...

Ask me about my inky life and I'll tell all. More personal than that and I keep stum. But after years of sharing with you through WOYWW, it feels right to break the rules... Many of you know I come from a professional dance background, am married to my Belgian music hubby and have spent a lot of life abroad. A dance life has been totally fabulous but also extremely demanding. Yet despite a wonderful career, I was less good at taking care of myself. You know things aren't right, but struggle to wave a white flag when everyone thinks you're so "artistic" and have "got it all together." Over three years ago, with me running on empty, we decided to drop the lot and move this way.

The release from the hectic demands of dance were wonderful, but being 'stripped' of my creativity left me very insecure. Creativity is indeed part of me, but what you do isn't who you are. It's hard to accept that with or without an artistic dance life, I am worth the same... . Around this time I decided to 'go a bit further with inky stuff'... the rest as they say is history. It has been my sanctuary and life saver in so many ways. I never thought I'd discover something that would win my heart and soul like dance did. But the humble ink pad did. We're in it for keeps. Life also showed me my fairy god-mother was not about to wave her magic wand, but it was time to tackle my baggage... and so began a long journey of learning to love, forgive and taking care of me. I'm a work in progress... Aren't we all?

In September aged 40 and armed with a previously unknown working body, hubby and I wondered if we might just catch the last bus to Parenthood. Our very first ride was well timed and two weeks later we were blown away to discover our little one is on the way! We are so incredibly grateful to the Big Man upstairs for such grace, throughout all our lives. We still can't get our heads around it all. I'm wobbling in places I didn't know existed and Bridget Jones knickers are top of my shopping list...
Plans for the craft room are on a par with the baby room. My husband is my hero and knows how special my art is. His faith, acceptance, friendship and love are my absolute everything. Wonderful creative doors are opening up and it's a path I long to walk. I'm still passionate, driven and perfectionistic, just learning to coax it down the right road. Tweaking buttons until 2am is indeed bonkers, but it beats getting up at 6am to run 10 miles in the rain. Someone asked me what I really wanted in life. "Just a happy home, a family and a creative lifestyle". I'm realising that may not be too much to ask... Sarah.

My Grungy Valentine...

Morning My Lovelies,
Welcome to another Monday, a new week and challenge at Simon Says Stamp & Show ... I had to use the servant's entrance because the Royals are in the house with our 'Kings and Queens' week! From King Canute to Elvis, from Cleopatra to our very own Lizzie, we want to see your take on this regal theme. 'Queen of Hearts' seemed to be a keeper with me, but not quite the she of Alice or card fame...

Metal and Alcohol Inks are like bread and butter in my crafty space and it seemed to be my 'go to' this week. I started by grunging up an 8" canvas with Vintage Photo and Wild Honey Distress Stains, Rock Candy Crackle Paint and Distress embossing powder. The crackle will cause the stains to move but that was just fine by me!

I white washed a dictionary page with Picket Fence Stain, glued it to card, gave it a good distressing and then stitched around the edges. I cut a rough square of chicken wire, snipped away a few wires and brushed it with Alcohol Inks. I then stapled it to white page, knowing the hearts would cover the staples.

I stuck Ranger Metal Foil Tape Sheets onto card and cut eight hearts before embossing them with various Tim folders. I dropped and splodged different Alcohol Inks onto the hearts, let it run a little before quickly drying with my heat gun to achieve a rough effect. I lightly sanded the surfaces to bring out the details, but without removing all the ink.

Then it was just a case of having fun with a trip to my Embellie Deli. Each heart has it's own 'thing' going on... mainly Idea-ology and a few findings of my own. All of which have been through the inky, grunge zone.

Here's a few close-ups. I really like all the different metallic tones and different patterns on each heart... my fave is the spinner and flower!

Here's a Memo Pin filled with a kiss and Glossy Accents...! Actually, I really like the Ball Chain one too... The centre stage is held by the Crown from the aptly named Regal Adornments and the wording is made using my Dymo Label Writer and Copper Tape. You can just make out the words 'light-hearted' on the page.

To finish off, I added some metal corner 'thingies' at the bottom and attached an old plug chain to the top using eyelet screws. Get thee to a hardware store or Dad's shed fast!

I'll Be Watching You...

I should be be doing a bit of house-wifey stuff but sometimes a creative diversion is just too good to resist. I really fancied joining in with a couple of challenges, just for my own arty(ish) fun and rustled up a tag for both Linda's Grungy Monday and Sunday Stampers from Hels.

Linda asked us to get cracking with crackle resist, all explained by Mr. H here and over at Hel's it's all about the windows of the soul, the eyes! For some reason I could feel the blues calling me, so I went for a shabby pallet throwing in the darker tones. I swooshed on Weathered Wood Crackle Paint, dried, and then rough strokes with my Pool Dabber for the background.

I over-stamped my tag with various Wendy Vecchi stamps, gave it a good inking with Weathered Wood, Brushed Corduroy and touches of Black Soot inks before distressing the edges and adding some machine stitching. Then I went for some Wendy leaves and flowers, Grungy stylie, made from old French book pages and given a good crumpling!

The eyeful damsel is from Art it For a Queen and I thought her lovely gaze would look good set in an Idea-ology Book Plate which has been coated in layers of UTEE and Alcohol Inks. I stapled a strip of vintage ruler behind and then added wire thread and a button.

I always like to add a few words and these few taken from a longer sentiment and stamped onto a Mica scrap seemed to fit the mood perfectly. All in all, a bit quirky but I do rather kind of like her!

Sometimes it's good to just sit, create and let things happen - and then just let them be what they are! So that's my crafty philosophy...well, for this week. Back to reality and alas, onto the washing up! Thanks for taking a peek. Sarah.

What's on your Workdesk Wednesday?

Back in the olden days, before Blogdom, this mid-week day would pass without a smidgen of furore. But now, thanks to Julia, Wednesday has received almost divine status, the power to oust fair maidens from slumber and has brought new street-cred to many a shambolic desk...
Today, it's more of the usual, lesser of the clean, plenty of dust and AWOL stamps (clean, but still loitering with intent). I'm working really hard to finish DT projects as I'm going to enjoy the rare phenomenon of a Social Saturday as my bloggy, crafty mate Kaz is hopefully coming to Ludlow! Hooray!

The DT job turned out to be a right, old inky mess, so I was très jolie to deviate into my Less is More playtime! This week it's a 'Cut it Out' theme. No, not a crash diet, but a call for apertures in posh card talk!

Hearts, an old French map and my vintage typewriter did the job! Just a little inking around the inside, distressed edges...et c'est fini!

Just one more for fun to use up the die cuts that were flying about. This time the hearts are mounted on card and again edged with ink.

So simple and also versatile. I think this could card be for a lover or family across the miles!

Fly Me to the Moon....

...maybe it's still the weekend there! The last week has rocketed by (great pun?) and here we are back at Monday morning again! So without further ado, here's my new DT creation for Simon Says Stamp & Show where we have broken into song! That could be your favourite ditty, ballad, rock anthem or golden oldie...you choose.

I really love both jazz dance and jazz music, especially when it's sung by an old crooner. I just couldn't resist an all time fave of mine... Frank's 'Fly Me to the Moon'. I dived into my treasure chest of Wendy Vecchi Art Parts to create my lunar journey! I went for a 'new slant' on things - quite literally and artistically methinks. After all, Life isn't always a straight road...

I used various circles from the Sample Pack covering each with a different surface. The large 'planet' is covered with Retro Grunge paper, inked and stamped with Wendy's alphabet. The smaller one is inked, stamped, and covered with Rock Candy Crackle paint then adorned with a Timepiece and Spinner.The fab little van and key Art Parts are from the For the Guys set, all stamped up and embellished with metal goodies from my stash.

The moon is covered with the 'fly' page from an old dictionary, white washed with Picket Fence Distress Stain and stamped with Wendy Stars. The dashing space traveller is hitching a ride on a Pocket Watch with light bulb and Trinket Pin wings. I stamped the 'wings' onto Clearly for Art and added a few more Idea-ology touches. I think he's taking a snap for Google Earth.

I hung a Swivel Clasp from the Timepiece and attached a Flying Boot that also wanted to come along for the ride! See, I always say Art Parts can be fun... let your imagination run around naked for a day!

And that being said, I think these words are very fitting. I love the word tinker - it's such a great way to say 'fiddling about'! The inky look comes from swooshes and splats using Distress Stains and Inks.

I sanded down an old picture frame, swiped it with Vintage Photo Distress Stain and added a good coat of Rock Candy Crackle Paint. I then set about assembling everything which was like building a Scooby-Doo sandwich. I glued a diagonal strip of wood into the frame to act as a hidden support for the large circle and worked from there... with oodles of Glossy Accents and lots of ink pads underneath for supports whilst it all dried! And now - ready for lift-off...

The Golden Girls...

Hi there to all Friday Blogettes and Weekenders!
I'm dropping in with a touch of shimmer, shine and sheen which is quite unusual for me because I ain't really a gold type of girl at all. I'll melt it down and cash it at the jewellers if you're throwing it my way but it doesn't often creep into my work...

But one must try new dabblings... This week TV Diva Hels has a Goldrush thing going on with her Sunday Stampers. I also had an eye on the new challenge over at Everything Wendy Vecchi held by Lori where we had to create our own Kraft resist paper. So... plenty of learning curves all round... I stamped Wendy's Alphabetically Art stamp onto Kraft card stock, clear embossed it and then applied Rusty Hinge and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.

The two roses are stamped and cut from inky card which I made by splodging my craft sheet with Distress Stains, giving it a spritz of water. (I was sneakily trying to give it all a bit of a Grungy look!)

I then added a good misting of Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls. I luuurve the Dimensional Rose Art Stamp and added extra petals by using up the cut off bits you get during preparation.

I used the inside of an Art Bookplate as a base, covering it with old French paper and white washing it with gesso. I stamped the sentiment in Coffee Archival ink and edged the plate with an all time fave, Inka Gold. Now that's a gold I do adore...! I also added three upholstery studs to the corner for another gold touch.

I stamped the leaves onto the same inky card and yes - I really enjoyed all the fiddily diddily snipwork!

I layered it all up adding random stitching, gold ribbon and a piece of card painted in my Gold Dabber for that extra glow! I hung it from an old chain, and what do you know? Even if it's not my usual tones, me thinketh it's pretty okay. I'm also joining in with:

I'm supposed to finish a new DT piece now, but I'm zonked, am heading for the sofa and will just have to hope for extra gusto tomorrow...! See you soonish, Sarah.

Okay, let's just get it over with... "Wednesday? Again? So soon? No! But Yes!" There we go, formal gasps all done and dusted and onto table talk. If you're up for Reality Blogging then head over to Julia's, and let your crafty zone strut it's stuff on the "What's on your workdesk Wednesday?" Catwalk... Here's a shot taken during a mid pounce and ink moment.

That's a rejected card on the left due to an over zealous inky corner! Don't you just love those?

New stash! Used to be more of a Do than Die lady but I'm slowly being converted to less snip stress.

I've made two cards for my weekly dose of Less is More where it's one layer and birdies!

I square punched my own stencil and opted for Distress Inks and an old fave by Paper Artsy. This one worked first time!

Went for another as I cannot resist sunsets and I'm also trying to make at least two with the same theme to build up a better collection for selling. I'm joining in with a handmade card exhibition next week and whilst I was sorting out my cards I came to two conclusions...
a) what a random collection!
b) must remember to store with matching envelopes.
Spent a whole night scavenging the planet for envelopes...

The exhibition, called House of Cards, is at The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Craven Arms and and starts next Saturday on the 28th. It's really great to see the walls adorned with so many handmade creations - and of course sell a few. I'll share more in a few weeks time...

...but a Card! Welcome to Monday, a new week and challenge at Simon Says Stamp & Show! Well, the first line says it all really. Yes, it's an 'Anything but a Card' thing, so oodles of opportunity for creative thinking and fun makes methinks!

Let me be the first to practice what I preach and show you my Valentine Shrine which began life as an electrical socket box! In my town there's this totally chaotic but fabulous DIY, hard ware, 'got it all' kind of shop. The shelves are heaving with loads of wondrous metal stuff and as you can see I bring a lot of it home!

I'm still in a metal mood... I started by roughly brushing the whole metal box with Red Pepper Alcohol Ink. Boy, is that stuff potent. Thankfully, my daily swim does wonders for inky fingers! I took a piece of my favourite mesh wire, gave it a sponging of Gesso and cut it to fit halfway inside the box. I made sure it was a tight squeeze so it holds itself in place and then added a strip of gesso swiped Ruler Ribbon.

I painted some Grungepaper on both sides, cut nine Tattered Floral flowers and stamped them with Tim's Stuff To Say in Vermillion Archival Ink which comes out so well. I edged the petals with Barn Door Distress Ink and created three Grunge Roses turning each layer to vary the wording. I glued them onto the wire adding ribbon, a Trinket Pin and just one word taken from a larger stamp.

The roof is created with two metal corner brackets (from that shop!). I painted them white and lined the inside with Tissue Tape. I stamped and cut a Papillon butterfly from painted Grungepaper to perch inside the roof. I coloured an old key and Charm Clip with more Red pepper Ink, adding a single 'L' for love of course - or it could be your secret sweetheart's initial!

I finished off with a wrap of Ball Chain which is fab stuff, again dipped in the red stuff. You can create any colour chain you want with a touch of Alcohol Inks! Even added a little colour to my 'nutty' feet - all glued together with good old Glossy Accents. So there it is. A little house but a lot of love! And definitely NOT a card.

Friday playtime...

Golly, Friday already.The world doth spinneth faster methinks... I'm just dropping by with a little tag therapy. I have a lot of DT work and projects bubbling away and a crafty lock-in has already booked this weekend. So it's good to have dabble and ponder in ink just for fun. I decided to plunder the week's scraps and create a tag for Grungy Monday with a few other challenges in mind...Sunday Stampers by Hels and Fashionable Stamping

I can't seem to stop inking up these three amigos lately... I thought I'd give them one more go before sending them on a short break! My other stamps have ink-envy. I have festively acquired the Kraft resist papers and this is a take on the Tim Tag Two Technique from the Christmas frenzy...

I cut a tag from the Steampunk page, swiped it with Picket Fence and coloured in sections with Vintage Photo Distress stain. I added some splats and splashes, some stamped details and edged everything Rusty hinge. I stamped the men in Black Stazon onto copper metal which I'd set onto card for strength so I could cut them out. In the background I've used a weathered clock off-cut clock coloured with Distress Stains, scrap wire and layered it all onto the tag.

The letters cut from metal tape are distressed and coloured with various Alcohol inks. I like adding little details and went for copper thread, hammered eyelets, staples and a touch or random red stitching. Lastly a philosophy tag, hanging from a swivel clasp. (I now see I forgot the seam binding finish!!! Oh well...) So that's my lot for tonight. A gal has gotta sleep so I'm signing off and going to dream of the weekend. Thanks for calling by! Sarah.

What's on your workdesk Wednesday?

Ah, 'tis Wednesday! Welcome to my blog and an unashamed display of organised chaos... It's all down to Julia. The only Hostess I know who holds a party where you get up before 6am and wear your PJ's to flaunt a dishevelled craft room. There's a touch of the purples going here...more of that later. I have the mind of a slightly sane woman this week as I'm getting back on top on the projects and I've cleaned the whole house. Tidy house, tidy mind definitely works for me. Well, for a week then.

The many hours of tweaking have at last brought sunshine. I'm extremely chuffed to say my first design piece for Craft Stamper Magazine made the press! It's the February issue which you can also buy at most WH Smith stores. I was totally amazed when I was asked to start designing some pieces. It's all very exciting, nerve wracking and quite a challenge.

I can't show the piece on my blog but I can share a snippet of my altered book covers (page 78!)

I was soon brought back to reality by having to clean this lot which had started to breed. Oh my...

It's been a wee while since I've joined in with Less is More and I was glad to find time to dabble. It's a Purple thing. A tough colour if you're not normally into it...

So I went for the torn look, a little romance and I actually quite like it! I swear that was my only scrap of purplish design paper...

So that's the low down on life at La De Dah. A little more space in the old Filofax (yes, a pen and paper gal!) means I'm looking forward to a morning of table surfing. Get your best fluffy slippers on, I'll be round soon. Thanks for taking a peek. Happy WOYWWing to all! Sarah.

A little Light Heavy Metal...for Simon Says!

Good Morning!
Rise and Shine as they say. Whatever you're up to today, I hope you'll have a really positive day... I'm sending lots of Marvellous Monday vibes your way. For a little arty inspiration I'm here with my new creation for Simon Says Stamp & Show! where it's a Red Letter Day theme. That can have many meanings these days but I plumped for Birthdays and a metal twist on "The Male Card." I also wanted to make something to celebrate Mr. Tim's special day and join in the tributes over at Grungy Monday. There's some great cards and I'm sure I've been inspired by this fabulous one by Tracy.

I really wanted to try an all metal card and went straight for my favourite garden wire! I cut two squares and roughly brushed them with Alcohol Inks. Then I cut four Weathered Clocks from corrugated cardboard which is great stuff. It's cheap, chunky and looks like old wood when coloured and swiped with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. I then glued them to the metal with Matt Medium tucking a little Ruler Ribbon behind the front one for a splash of those important red numbers!.

Then it was an indulgence in Idea-ology! I used a Timepiece, Regal Wings and Spinners topped off with a rather jaunty crown! Again, all tinted with Alcohol Inks.

I glued a chain to the Timepiece and suspended a Memory Frame from it. Inside, I placed my favourite dapper Chap. He is stamped on painted Grungeboard , cut out and mounted on a 'flying' dictionary corner! I thought Flying High was a great phrase so I cut Chip Block letters, stuck them to card and covered them with Ranger Metal Foil. I pounded everything with more Alcohol inks, used a paper stump to define the letters and then finally sanded them to make them stand out.

On the inside... Here you can see how I used the other clocks. I glued a second clock to the inside of the card front to hide some of the glue work and add extra detail. Of course, you must glue it the wrong way round to get it to match up! I split the second clock into two, again adding an extra at the back. If you're going to fly high, you should enjoy the ride, so...

I coined a Tim saying with letters cut from metal scraps, with a Swivel Clasp and Philosophy Tag for the journey part.

I added a few extras for fun! I randomly snipped the metal so it doesn't look too neat and it's all held together with two wire loops.

And I'm all done. Hopefully a fitting tribute to Mr. T and a card that a few fellas would be pleased to get. What do you think? Although I'll have to work on the envelope...

Hello and welcome to both you and 2012! Time for new colours, fresh inspiration and undiscovered creative paths! Time to blow off the Festive Glitter and look ahead... I'm working you in gently with this months theme, Play Petite and getting into ATCs! Whatever your crafty passion may be, do feel welcome and enjoy making art. I'm hoping to inspire those crafty fingers, have lots of loveliness to share and give away, so hop on board. Firstly, let's talk to January's featured artist, the oh so creative Anneliese Bates.

FIVE QUESTIONS TO MY FEATURED ARTIST...

When I first started crafting a few years ago, Anneliese was one of the first artists I stumbled across. I was captured by her sumptuous colours, unique eye for design and wonderful imagery...and I'm still hooked today. Whatever Anneliese turns her diverse and talented hands hand to, it's always going to wow you!

Who is Anneliese Bates in five words?

Where are you right now as an artist?
I am thoroughly enjoying my personal creative journey, it has many twists and turns but my whole attitude to life is, that it is what you make it, so embrace the opportunities that are given.

This applies to my art as much as it does to any other aspect of my life and I love finding new ways to play!

Which of your creations is closest to your heart?

I suppose it's my Grunge Paper bag. I did it for Craft Stamper magazine as my first ever article. (Due to copyright, only a peek. Beg, borrow or steal Craft Stamper October 2009!)

But I also sent a couple of images to Tim to show him what I'd done with what was then his newest product... and it nearly led to it being on the packaging of Tim Holtz's Grunge Paper as inspiration. Alas, Craft Stamper had the copyright so it wasn't possible. But it was a lovely moment to be asked by Advantus knowing that Tim must have put it forward.
Where do you find inspiration when feeling Mojoless? Other peoples blogs are a constant source of inspiration, also crafty Youtube videos can be enough to get me saying "I NEED to do that" and getting my inks out again!
You are going back-packing in the Himalayas for a year and may only take 3 crafting items. Which - and why?
Hmmm... That would have to be my Art Journal, Pens and water colour pencils. I always take my art journals away with me, the one I've just nearly finished has been to Holland, Devon and Spain with me this year. It's a great way of remembering things about your holidays but also it's an easy way to take your art with you!

Starting a new crafty year can be tricky. We've had the full on festive stuff, you may have lots of new goodies from Santa and are probably itching to try out some fresh moves...but where oh where to start? Well, that's why I thought Artist Trading Cards would be just perfect for January. Petite, scrap-box friendly with themes and techniques galore! Read more about ATC history here. At just 2½ x 3½ inches yet with enough to room to play, ATCs are like a good Espresso!

Sometimes you just want to 'be creative' but you don't always want to embark on a major project. Maybe you fancy test-driving a new technique or different colours. An ATC offers you an open door to ponder and play without any major tears if it goes wrong. I just wanted to indulge my Vintage Vibes and work on colouring and blending with paint.

Sometimes I make a few ATCs to add to my swap box in case an exchange comes up but sometimes I'll start on an ATC, kind of fall in love with it and feel inspired to then incorporate into a larger piece as the main feature. I could be a card, tag or home décor. Here I ended up creating a wall hanging from an old book cover. Who knows where an ATC may take you?!

You don't need oodles of stash to create ATCs. During an ATC flurry, I always end up raiding my scrap box, using torn book pages and flicking through old collage sheets and stamps... I also love being able to blend a little beauty, humour and personal expression into an ATC. I was feeling rather iffy this week, physically and emotionally, and just put it all into this little lady!

As said, who knows what will happen, so along came this dame. The book page is washed with gesso, then randomly stamped and stitched. I added a torn strip, then glued my ladies in place, adding a slight shadow of charcoal around them for emphasis, blending well with a cotton bud. I have a fabulous book called Artist Trading Workshop by Bernie Berlin. It's a true gem and must-have!

And then there were three. I have a slight trio obsession... I followed the same basic format as before which then gives you more room to play with composition and mood. Hopefully you can see I try to balance out the main focal point - the lady - with a smaller piece such as the butterfly or words. It might sound a bit arty now, but we're touching on The Golden Mean and Rule of Thirds.

I'm not going to enforce any laws or demand you get a degree at Art School, but good composition and proportion are essential to a piece and ATCs are great little canvasses to practice on.

You'll probably do it naturally but it's good to delve into things, develop your artist's eye and to also know WHY a WHAT is working! Here is a great no nonsense, normal talking link to a Photographer's website that might give you a few tips and pointers.

And finally, another fun guy, the CHUNKY ATC which is basically the three dimensional model! Again, 2½ x 3½ inches but 1½ inches deep. I've sawn a block off an old piece of wood although some stores may sell ready made blocks. I love wood with all it's cracks and faults and they just love to be painted! A few coats with my Red Pepper Dabber did the trick...

I couldn't resist my Wendy Vecchi stamps and Art Parts, deciding if you going to do red, then be bold. Dig out those unused doorknobs!

Red and white always do it for me and if you still have some Festive colours around you're half way there. I used red and white paint, red archival ink and White Stazon. Again, oh so petite and a real pleasure to create. I think they make wonderful gifts too... just that bit different from a card and yet demure enough for any room. You can be as wacky or refined as you dare!

Once again, we have reached our final destination and I'm all done with my ABC on the ATC!

What's on your Wet and Windy Workdesk Wednesday???

Early Wednesday Morning Greetings to all. Vintage WOYWWer, first-timer or friendly visitor? Come on in! Whether you are a Pristine Princess or a Minefield Millie, you'll feel a lot better when you see my desk. This was the score after just half an hour of getting busy. The final state of the whole room late last night even gave me palpitations. I've been rather snowed under with projects and commissions. It's been ultra-très intense and it was a case of nose down, tail up and stick to the trail. The 11th Commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Faff Around...

It is all very wonderful stuff and some fabulous new doors are opening. The down sides are the pesky deadlines, keeping the old Mojo going and the fact that I can't show any of it yet...sigh. So sorry for being rather AWOL... I'm almost at the summit and hope to be back to usual (?) soon.
But I CAN share my first makes as Guest Designer for The Artistic Stamper. Yippie! Here's a little peak, head over the the blog for more!

Phew indeed. One is well cream-crackered as they say... Something Old, Something New, Something Relaxing!

A big hello and warm welcome to both you and 2012! It's the first week of the new year which hopefully will hold many days of inspiration, happiness and discoveries. I'm still kind of in limbo... I haven't taken down my decorations yet, there's lots of Christmas pressies awaiting their new place of residence and I've got a backlog of housework and projects to make you wince! The first Monday of the year also means a brand new challenge over at Simon Says Stamp & Show! This week it's the very fitting theme of 'Something Old, Something New". After all the indulgence of the holidays with the full-on festive glittery glam stuff, I really fancied some bright Spring-like colours and some stress-free crafting.

So I decided to revamp an old photo frame that was lying dormant in a cupboard. I started by covering the wooden frame with some lovely Design paper from My Mind's Eye. I used Matt Medium and then sanded the edges to get a good finish. I then inked the edges with Aged Mahogany.
I painted Art Part leaves with Claudine's Sky Blue paint and stamped two of Wendy's 'Just Fly' butterflies onto Clearly for Art.

I used a trio of scrap ribbons in matching colours and layered them up with fab words from this great set, also by Wendy.

To finish, three vintage buttons from my own stash and this oh so lovely photo of my Belgian niece. A model in the make methinks!

Colourful, simple and even useful! A good start indeed. Check out all my teamies great ideas on the Design Team blog and get your creative thinking caps on. What's on Your last 2011 Workdesk Wednesday???

Well hello everyone! I've been AWOL for a week although it feels like just moments. As always the festive day is gone in a flash and now it's that funny in between week. Still a holiday mood, yet already so much to do, but you can't quite get going either! Not a lot going on in my Blog World but it's full on at Crafty HQ. I have five major projects to complete by Saturday including January's My Mojo Monthly and a photo tutorial! And I gotta go to work! Sigh...

I didn't realise it was almost Wednesday until very late last night! So just one quick piccy to share... to show you a bit of loot and to join in with the last WOYWW? of 2011. I was rather off colour Christmas Day but perked up for a moment at the sight of chocolate and crafty goodies. I'm contemplating putting the buttons in the Melting pot and having a private fondue party... and the white book? Well, it's homework for my sanity!

As said, the new My Mojo Monthly is just around the corner. There's still a few days left to join in with December if you're feeling creative! I'll keep this very short and sweet today... Just wanted to pop by and say hello. I've got to get into serious 'No Faffing Around Gear' if I'm to survive the week and still enjoy some New Year Frivolity! I hope you've had a really fabulous Christmas and are still languishing in the seasonal after-glow.

What's on Your Festive Workdesk Wednesday?

A big festive hello to all fellow WOYWWers and anyone calling by! Well, it's my last show and tell before the Big Day descends with a desk that's looking as ready for Christmas as I am! I lost three months somewhere... Shouldn't it still be October? We're all off to my sister's in Wales and mum and I are head chefs at the banquet fayre!

Every Wednesday, be it Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter you can join in The One and Only Big Desk Snoop by linking up at 'Mrs. Top of the Crop Hostess' Julia's place. I'd just made a quick card but still managed to get in a mess...

Last week I showed just the corner of my Seasonal Gothic Arch and today I managed to get a better picture although it's a tough model to work with! As said I made it at a workshop with the lovely Lin Brown from LB Crafts (that is no more...) I actually went to Holland to do it and we worked from 9am until midnight!

I really love blue and silver together and this design has a bit of everything I love. Stamping, metal work, beading and sewing... It was a very intensive labour of love on that long day, yet a real joy too. It's a few years old now but I do enjoy getting it out for the holiday season. It's actually above the lounge fireplace...just moved it for the piccy! I've added lots of my own layers and details and still like to feel the textures!

I'll keep it short as I'm sure you are all rather busy! I have to work the next two days so my table-hopping will be a little sneaky and sporadic but I'm looking forward to seeing what you are all up to! I'll leave you with a great big Christmas smooch, a twinkle from my fairy and wish you all a really great holiday time!!!

A Festive Farewell, Sarah.

Less is more - is it really.. in December?

Well, possibly not when I look at my Festive 'to do' list or bank account but there's always a little simple bliss to be found in making a card! I'm winding down the crafty antics this week but really wanted to join in at Less is More. I goofed up last week making a rather dimensional card for the one layer challenge so I need to make things good!

This week the theme is music and I decided to step away from the Festive frenzy and go for something different. Could even be an early Valentine! I die cut two hearts and painted one in white and then embossed it. The second one is stamped with some Mr. Holtz music using White Stazon over which I applied Fired Brick Distress Ink.

I ran a piece of metal through my Dynamo to create the Lovenotes sign, added a swoosh of paint and then sanded to reveal the silver.

I mounted everything on SU Confetti White (Thanks Mandi!), added some random stitching and distressed the edges. I like the combination of elegant and slightly shabby, even if I do say so myself!

Here's my slightly more than one layer effort from last week. Still love it and it's off to a good home. Well, that's my last of card until after the Big Day!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Monday...

Good Morning,
How's life with you? Festive panic, elation, retail frenzy or Holiday Cheer? I think the emotional roller-coaster of hyperactivity and euphoria just 'go with the job' at Christmas, but I always get there in the end, so I'm going to chill and work on being slightly mad but very merry! I'm starting to wind down the crafty antics this week but I'm in today with the new theme over at Simon Says Stamp & Show. It's a Tim and Tags FORTNIGHT so LOTS of time to show off your tagged beauties, Tim inspired creations and seasonal makes.

I fancied a cocktail of Mr. Holtz and Wendy Vecchi and had great fun creating my tags. I just sat down at my table and pulled together an array of my favourite crafty goodies and techniques.

I cut a large tag from scrap Kraft like cardboard, painted it with my Pool and Snow Cap Dabbers, and then embossed it with Spots!

I sanded the dots to create some contrast in colour and then machine stitched twice around the edges. I also distressed the edges and added a little Vintage Photo Distress ink.

I painted my Art Part Leaves white, tinted the edges with Rusty Hinge adding sparkle with a little Stickles.

I stamped Wendy's flowers onto Glassine paper which I'd pounced with Snow Cap and Pearl Alcohol inks. I crumpled the flowers, swiped them Rusty Hinge and stamped a few more dots for fun!

I layered them up and added washers and Idea-ology sprockets and spinners as metal accents.

To finish, painted Grunge board Letters, sheen by Glossy Accents, and a lovely Scallop, lace and ribbon!

I thought I was done but started playing around...as you do!
Here I stamped and clear embossed Tim's Season's Silhouettes in Barn Door and then blended Peeled Paint ink over the top. More distressing, stitching and a Glassine frill along the bottom. I used my Dynamo and Copper tape to create the mini 'wonderful' sign.

The painted Wendy Flower is stamped and adorned with a sanded Muse token.

I used an inked and stamped Art Part book-plate to frame Rudolph and gave him a nice winter coat of Picket Fence Crackle Paint! I also dressed him up with a little chain and added a little blingy thingy nose! And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows...
The book-plate rests on the flower and sticky pads creating depth - just enough space left to add a little ribbon, lace and ric-rac for extra interest...!

Tags are always great fun - all year round. Ideal if you just have a little time to play and for all those Holtzoni's out there, it's a fab chance to show us what you got up to with the infamous 12 Tim Tag frenzy! So I'm all done and all tagged out and feeling a little more festive just from talking about red noses! I really hope you will all have a truly WONDERFUL time! A Saturday Flutterby...

Hello to everyone and this final weekend before Mr. and Mrs. Christmas come calling. I'm glad to say the house is now in full festive attire and a sprinkling of snow yesterday definitely helped improve the mood. I know it's all slushy now, but it was a nice way to walk home from work and think about the holidays...and all the shopping I still haven't done!!!

Just sharing a few very quick and easy cards... Just some simple but modern designs created with my circle punches. I've only made a small number of cards this year but I have a few friends that don't really like the traditional sort so I had to think and make quick! So I dug out my punches and some off cuts of Chrimbo design paper...

I love playing with circles as there's so much you can do with them. I really like this polka paper and the unusual blue tones - kind of snowy and a little bit festive... I just punched lots of different circles, punched again to create a few retro hoops I inked the circle edges! I literally just threw these on the card and went with how they fell! Wish I was always so speedy.

Just played around with the layouts and stamped my sentiment in a similar coloured ink. Job done!

So if you are still on your card marathon, maybe this is a quick idea for you to play around with. You could use any paper - old music, old cards, gift wrapping...!

What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday???

Things are looking deceptively peaceful at Casa Mia but it's a censored shot which nicely omits a weeks worth of dirty stamps. To crop or not to crop...! Reckless or OCDer, join in with the desk-confessional at Julia's. A bit of homework meant I had a getting festive, non-crafty weekend so I just downed tools and headed for the light. First Saturday out in ages! My, my, to be amongst civilisation again! Got my whole house clean too, which is both a miracle and complete mystery...

Women are obsessed with cleaning their houses just at the moment it's about to get messier, dirtier and more chaotic than ever before. It seems I MUST scrub, dust and hoover from loft to cellar before I can allow myself to adorn the floors with pine needles, rebel tinsel and thirty-five M&S bags...

As vowed, no card marathon for me! Doing all that retail style and savouring time to create just a special few cards for the family.

This was my 'Snowflake' card for Less is More. Have just realised it's a one layer week. Major duh! Oh well... Fancied an 'all winter white mood' using my fab new SU card from Mandi. Really liking the look of Confetti White - it just softens things slightly. I dug out my Mr. Tim Rosette die, snowflake and letters and Cor blimey, I even managed a bit of sparkle with some Stickles!

I've also unearthed my Festive Gothic Arch... I made it with Lin Brown many moons ago in Holland and I still love it. I'll try and get a better shot next week but for now I'll just leave you with a glimpse of my all time favourite angel...

O Christmas Glee, O Christmas Glee...

Good morning from a frosty England! A bit of chilly weather, boxes of decorations out the loft and a shopping expedition...Yes, I'm inching my way into the Christmas mood. I was all set to buy my tree yesterday except it rained so badly we abandoned ship! Today, come hell or high water as they say, I am going to festify my house... It's Monday and that means it's also time to share my new piece for Simon Says Stamp & Show! A star is born...

This week it's 'Through the Looking Glass. It's all about creating dimension, so I couldn't be happier. I decided to play with all my favourite products and techniques and also take a little inspiration from Mr. Holtz. I just haven't had time to play with the 12 tags party so this was my chance to dip a toe in the water.

I created my star using Ranger Metal Foil which I stuck to six strips of card. I embossed the whole strip with the Textile folder moving the folder along the strip to emboss the whole strip. Don't be ultra fussy matching the pattern, because once it's all inked, folded and glued, you won't notice the slight differences. Then it was a good session of splodging and pounding with Alcohol Inks.

The six strips were then folded, shaped and glued onto a cardboard circle with Glossy Accents. Then I started on the centre decoration. I stamped the sentiment from Joyful Song onto thick cardstock, painted over top with Rock Candy Crackle paint and then when dry, added Vintage Photo Distress Ink to enhance the cracks. Following Tim's idea, I pounced a mix of Green and Copper Alcohol inks onto Kraft Glassine Paper, scrumpled it up and swiped Distress Ink over the wrinkles.

I cut my own holly leaves by hand, added an off-cut of vintage lace and then created two hat pins.

I coloured a few of my pearls with Red Pepper Alcohol ink for a berry nice effect! I finished everything off with an old necklace chain and jump ring to be able to hang it. Here's a side shot to show you a bit more of the shape and metal detail... I really, really like how it came out. Simple but full of texture, colour and detail. You just can't beat a bit of vintage charm, especially at Christmas...

Just one for the weekend...

Just a quick hello from me before the weekend kicks in big time. I've have a busy week working hard to get all my long list of projects done. Almost there and last night I even cleaned the house - huge fanfare! Saturday, I'm off for an intensive dose of festive retail therapy with hubby and I'm really in the mood for a day out.

I'm admiring everyone's seasonal creations and the Tim tag frenzy sweeping the planet. Wish I had more time to join in, but one is better than none. This dotty lady is just a bit of fun I had playing around with Tims 5th tag and my Wendy Vecchi stamps. My turned out a bit messy which I ended up quite liking as it looks like a real strawberry snowstorm!

I used a corner scallop stamp to create a layered tree, adding a ric-rac trunk and a flower star complete with bolt! I inked up a scalloped edge Art Part for the snowy ground and added some twinkle with sequin trim. I'm into using non festive sentiments for my Chrimble makes at the moment and think this one works well at any time of the year!
Just a bit of funky fun and colour, and why not? Have a great weekend!

WOYWW? Glitter, Guilt and A Giveaway!

The Magic Elves definitely cranked up the glitter motor... Boomph! December! I'm a full-on festive lover but just 18 days until Christmas. Eeek! I'm hoping a good dose of tinsel, pine needles and Shopology will get me on track. Thou shalt not panic and fluster. Have even decided I won't be making a huge stack of cards either! Just a few special ones here and there. I've worked hard on Design Team work and my blog all year and with over 70 folk on my list, well...the rest is up to Oxfam. I'm guilt-free and a wiser woman (well, this morning). The trail of debris there is my attempt to "be all done" and free this weekend. Fancy displaying your wares too? Join in with WOYWW? at Julia's. 'Tis merriment galore! Furthermore, here's a bit of this and that...

Despite the above appearances, a smudge shy card emerges. This week at Less is More, it's "green" and my very original take on that is a tree! I used a Wendy Vecchi corner scallop stamp, just cut it down and layered it up! A dash of red and another non-Chrimble sentiment. Me rather likey, but not enough to make 70 of 'em.

A few weeks ago I showed you some pages I made for a swap and here are the gorgeous three I got back. Just beautiful. Huge thanks to Lynne, Marjie and Michael!

Last week I was up to my ear's in projects for My Mojo Monthly December. I'm glad to say it's all up and running with lots of tin and metal fun.

And lastly a little giveaway. Seeing as I've escaped the card making guillotine, I won't be getting these out this year. So many of you are doing great stuff with your festive makes. Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines...

...is the title of a rather wacky film about a 1910 flight race with an equally zany and like-named theme tune. Taste and childhood aside, I have seen it, and was soon humming the melody whilst creating my new piece for Simon Says Stamp & Show! Monday brings the wonderfully inviting new theme of Elements of Time. From the impending festivities to your favourite memory, just think of how many ways you can play with such a theme. This is what I came up with...

I still had an empty Configurations Box left over from my Houses project and thought it was the ideal candidate for a makeover. With a good dose of Distress Stain and Rock Candy Crackle Paint I was able to create an antique wood effect for my vintage cabinet. I lined the inner box with torn dictionary pages and white-washed them with Picket Fence Distress Stain.

Then the real fun began with bringing these three airborne Gents into being...

This guy is The Head Dandy so he gets to wear the big Wings! Big cheers for Glossy Accents holding them on!!!

I used three of Tim's Pocket Watches tinting them with Alcohol Inks. I inked and stamped each Gent onto white washed paper, glued a length of Ball Chain trim around the edge with Matt Medium and added off-cuts of Sprockets.

In an ancestral mood, I added three typed words and used a Swivel Clasp to suspend each watch.

I adjusted the chain lengths which is possible with a bit of 'snip and squeeze'... Fiddily, but doable and worth the effort.

I die-cut several Weathered Clocks from Grunge board, coloured them with Distress Stain and Embossing Powder before gluing them onto the back. I wanted differing depths and with patience, super glue and ultra tiny snippets of foam pads I got there!

I made two tiny holes in the inner box top, through one of which I threaded some fine wire. I passed it through the jump ring at the end of each watch chain before going back through the other whole and securing firmly. I staggered the distances and widths to gain more interest and dimension. You will have to do a bit of tweaking to find the right 'hanging' position of each watch. Luckily all the wire and hole work can't be seen because of the outer lid!

I raided my metal stash and came across this odd handle. It was just destined for the top!

Just added a few extra details with inked and sanded Time Pieces, Spinners and a rusty metal corner.

And finally...a length of Ruler Ribbon brings some fitting numbers into the picture and you can also see the feet which are just four old drawer knobs. I am loving that crackle effect, but my pot no longer runneth over! I have to say I was amazed at how well everything went and I had a great two days seeing it come together. I hope you can see that there are lots of ways to play with the Elements of Time theme, Idea-ology and your Configgy boxes!

I'm excited, slightly frantic and way behind on the old card making but I am ready for this months new theme of Any Old Iron, so let's jump straight in. Who is Linda Cain in five words? Wife, Nana, Mom, Artist, Teacher.

Where are you right now as an artist? Sitting in my studio at the computer. No, seriously...
I love everything and want to try it all. Canvas art, home decor, stamping, painting, encaustic, photography. Everything! I love teaching and seeing the happy students with their projects, and helping my grandkids with Art Projects in my Studio.
Which of your creations is closest to your heart?
Probably the 1st thing I really did when we built out sunroom, the Row Houses that are my blog header. The piece is 12x36 inches framed and I've always loved it. Row Houses have always been my theme. But the things that have been chosen for Tim Holtz's CHA booth are some of my favourites as well.

Where do you find inspiration when feeling Mojoless?
Add layers to something. But when it's not working, it's not working for me. I usually don't like what I've done. So I wait....generally it will "hit" me if I'm patient.
You are going back-packing in the Himalayas for a year and may only take three crafting items. Which, and why?
When I'm on vacation, I don't have much Mojo for art. But I could just not be without my CAMERA! I really love taking and editing pictures of scenery and architecture. Historical places are my real favourites.

See, I told you it would be special. Just wonderful...Thanks SO much Linda. Now that's what I call go-go for your Mojo!
So, this month I'm doing the rounds shouting, "Any old iron, iron, iron!" Just like my local scrap man does at 6am... I love using metal and findings in my work and what better piece to audition that Ye Olde Tin! Dinky ones, rusty ones, vintage ones. I love them all and think they are wonderful inspirational foundations for creativity...
Creating a keepsake for someone special is always a joy and this vintage and petite peppermint tin is the perfect size. I sanded off the paint and then simply applied Alcohol inks with an old brush for a rustic look. I purposely kept the outside simple to emphasise the sentiment. The added more ink to the Idea-ology bookplate to give it a darker tone adding just three simple typed words.

Inside, the story continues. I lined the deeper part with torn pages, added Belgian lace and more metal love with an old key, a rusty nail, off-cuts of wire and a tape measure scrap. The wire is glued to the button and key giving a resting place for the stamped Grungepaper butterfly. I lined the inside with stamped and stitched card inked in Rusty Hinge Distress ink.

I added more words with my old typewriter and felt it was done. Hopefully the words, with the broken wire, the butterfly symbolise a mood of freedom. The tape measure is to remind us to go the distance. Life is a process! I love how the simplicity of the outside contrasts with the inside and makes the opening a little more exciting.
Maybe you'd like to add that special photograph or piece of personal ephemera...

Many of you know I'm a huge Wendy Vecchi fan and when I came across an old tobacco tin I just knew it would be the perfect home for this elusive lady. Except for a little Rusty Alcohol ink on the inside, I haven't done anything to the tin at all. I really love it's original design and that is, after all, part of the fun! I used a sturdy iron clock finding as part of the piece and upwards she did go...

I also used the lid as a fun and sturdy base and it also really helps to balance out the whole shape and lines of the piece.

I've gone inky with Wendy's stamps and Art Parts but this tin makes a great home for many styles of art.

And finally I couldn't resist this rusty old box lid. It was just waiting for some love... I love to collect vintage cabin cards and this is my absolute favourite. It says everything and more about a special Nanna. Collage work offers the chance to work with an endless array of wonderful vintage images, colours and patterns.

I really recommend a visit to Mary Green from Green Paper. Her collage work is just fabulous and she has a wealth of amazing images and designs to tempt the heart.

Challenge, Nice Stuff and Info...

So, I am all done again once. I hope you enjoyed a little bit of rust and metal and can see that even the simplest tins can be a really versatile fun substrate.

What's on your workdesk Wednesday???

Looking at it on a pic, I can say my desk looks fairly sane. Well, in crafty 'I really will do the big clean-up soon" terms, that is. In reality the trail of chaos is a full-on panoramic mine-field. But Wednesday's are the confessional booth for sinful desks, so head over to Julia's and join in! I just have so much on the go at the moment. One projects left-overs soon become the dandruff of the next. I've got my weekly things, DT work, the new My Mojo Monthly at the door, I'm going to be a Guest Artist at The Artistic Stamper(!) and I've also been asked to create some "things" for "something else". All very exciting indeed, but all of it having to remain under a veil (more likely a blanket of panic) for now...

I can always find a little light refreshment from the intense stuff by enjoying my weekly play at Less is More with some clean and simple (artistic not domestic I must add) cards. The LIM bosses want to see some Bling! Ah yes, they must mean my sparkling kitchen, glossy bathroom and shiny floors. Or am I getting muddled up with 2009 again...?

There ain't much bling in my jewellery box, house-keeping or cards, so this really is the ultimate Less is More. Having fun with Mr. Rudolph! In case you missed it, his nose is the shiny zone. I also used a non festive sentiment which worked out very well. I'm sure we all fancy a bit of Ye Olde Happy Time during the hols...

Starry, Starry Night...

Well, actually it is! I'm writing this post at midnight hoping it will appear bright and early Monday morning (which is theoretically now if it works and you're reading this!) Bright and early she says. Very unlike myself (sorry, cue sigh if you're at work) as I'll be in bed indulging in the art of 'The Big Sleep In". The body, mind and soul need a little off-duty time. Whilst I am away with the fairies, I'll leave you with the new theme over at Simon Says Stamp & Show! We want to see Stars! If you can just send Michael Bublé over, that'll do very nicely indeedily.

I'm not quite sure if my idea came from a Christmas or cookie fantasy but I do know I love working with metal and alcohol inks. I decided to alter some cookie cutters as I thought they could make some great Festive decorations. I started by colouring the cutter with Alcohol inks using an old paintbrush to spread the ink well and get into all the corners.

Then I stuck a piece of Ranger Metal Foil Sheet to card and embossed it with the Textile folder from Cuttlebug which could well be may favourite one. I used the same Alcohol inks to colour the foil, dripping them on and just letting them run and mix feely. Then I marked and cut out the star, soon discovering that getting a good fit was a bit of a game. Each cutter and corner is slightly different, they bend easily when handled and seem to constantly change size by a few millimetres. So it's a bit by bit, trim, wangle and fiddle game!

I pushed the star two thirds of the way in and then added various decorations. The first is simply an inky Philosophy tag, and on the second I cut 'noel' using Tim's Typeset die. On the third I stamped 'joy' onto metal using Stazon ink, trimmed them to fit behind some Charm Clips and then filled them with Glossy Accents. Glossy stuff indeed, they're like three little swimming pools!

I was going to drill holes to turn them into hanging tree decorations, but I actually prefer them standing at the moment. I didn't fancy a last minute disaster either! I also have some angel shaped ones which I might get done by Christmas Eve. I'm a rusty-look fan but I think you could have some real colourful fun with all the other Alcohol inks or even paint. So there we go, that's my take on stars!

A little bit of Festive Glamour....

Hello to everyone,
I hope your weekend is going very well. Mine seems to be racing away already and I should be half-way through some DT work by now! But it seems Saturday mornings are like fairy dust...gone in a puff. I just want to share a little piece I made for Grungy Monday where Linda asks us to have fun with metals and alcohol inks all inspired by Tim's Festive Pumpkin.

It seems like such a long time since I've played with my Rosette die so I decided to give it a quick whirl again and create a bit of seasonal shiny stuff... I'm not really a blingy type of girl but I do like a touch of blue and silver so that was my colour combi for the day.

I just have the mini rosette set but if you snip and trim you can create lots of different sizes and get a graduated look which was my idea. I used silver metal tape which I stuck to card before cutting out. I then embossed the strips and centres with the Textile folder from Cuttlebug.

I sploshed on a good dose of Denim and Stone Washed Alcohol inks not sanding afterwards as the inks ran in such a nice way, I liked the colour intensity. You do need to be careful when folding them into shape as too much handling can make them fragile.

Running a strip of tape along the back can help although I went so mad with the ink mine were a bit damp for the tape to stick to!

I stuck each one to a punched card circle which I had primed and ready with a good blob of Glossy accents. The letters are cut with the Chip Block die and only lightly inked for contrast. I joined them all with inked jump rings and added a swivel clasp and simple blue ribbon.

It's not an easy piece to catch on film but hopefully you can pick up the Christmas mood! Single ones would look great on a tree

The Male Card goes Festive...

Bloggers across the world are in different states of chaos, euphoria and panic at the thought of the Festive Season. Many a sane, non-crafty type throws a '100 cards for 99p' box into the shopping trolley. But there is many an artistic hand in a full spasm whilst it glues it's millionth star and glitters it's trillionth reindeer. I'm still contemplating that one, but decided on a little first-time technical jiggery-pokery with Mr. Apple just for tonight.

With it's fair share of wine and tools the male card can be dodgy ground. So what do you send the Urban chap in December?

Over at Less is More, silhouettes are on show and I couldn't resist another dabble. I love playing with letter fonts and silly bits on the computer and thought I'd revamp the male Chrimbo card... Here's the New Year Mexican wave which is just so much fun, fun, fun!

Added a flashy pink sentiment for the party feeling and we're off. Okay you begin at your end...

It makes a really fab party invitation! Other colour combos with 'You Did It!' worked out great too.

I have to admit it's slightly addictive, and just so much fun to play around with. Who knew making Christmas cards could be soooo relaxing. WOYWW-What's on your Workdesk Wednesday?

Welcome to another episode of WOYWW. Your weekly dose of unruly desks, crafty shenanigans and gossip. Show us what you've got, ain't got, created, still not finished, glittered, blackmailed, spilt, splodged, glued and punched by linking up over at Julia's. This is what I call my tidy desk as I can see a few inches of space. That white box marked with FRAGILE may well contain my sanity.

I was enjoying the feeling of being on top of things project wise, until I realised there are only seven days left in November and now the Deadline bogey-man is on my tail... One project I did manage on time was a page swap with some arty blogging buddies over in the U.S. I even sent them off 5 days early. Mexican wave indeed. They've arrived safely so I thought I'd share them today.

The theme was open so I created something personal which I thought fitted by each person. Firstly a little bit of childhood nostalgia..

Love the feeling of this one. Be honest. Who doesn't want to be the little girl with the best butterfly costume in the whole world? Yes even now...

And one for that alas too rare a find, the crafty Gent! It's a revamp of an old design but I do love this chap as he just makes me chuckle every time.

The month is rocketing ahead, so a quick reminder about November's My Mojo Monthly. There are six fabulous entries so far, and still time left if you would like to play along! Good morning on this "Is it really Monday again?" morning!
If you're suffering from the Monday blues, or are maybe at work wishing you were somewhere else, I hope you end up having a good day after all and that something nice, however small, comes your way to perk you up. How about a quote to help you along?
"If you add a little to a little and do this often, soon the little will become great."
And here are two flowers and smiling ladies from me to you... Monday is my day for sharing a new DT piece for Simon Says Stamp and Show and this week we want to see your tickets!

Last year I can remember thinking "Hmm, I could make flowers out of tickets..." and then never really thought of it again. So when this theme came up, I dug into my brain archives and decided to try it out. You just can't beat flower therapy! So I sat in my Crafty Den and lost myself in a little floral fantasy and if you happen to have Mr. Bublé for company, it's almost a perfect day.

So as you can see, it's all nice and simple and done in a jiffy! I used the Idea-ology Adage tickets which were the perfect size for flowers. I played around with different numbers of tickets and finally settled on seven which seemed to work the best.

I lightly curled and distressed them and then edged them with Aged Mahogany ink for some extra colour and definition. I then stuck them onto a circle of card overlapping each ticket on top of the previous one. I needed a flower centre and a bottle top photo frame was just the job.

Belgian Beer Fanatic Hubby is my source and head supplier but here's a great crafty version if needed.

I cut out two lovely vintage ladies, both with a glint in their eye, to fit the tops and then filled them with a good dose of Glossy Accents. Squeeze gently to avoid bubbles and just leave them to dry naturally which will be all day or better still overnight. Don't be tempted to hurry things along with a heat gun!

You'll cook up a right old bubbly fiasco and end up with bearded ladies. Save that one for some altered art I say.

To finish off, I coloured some thick wire with Alcohol Inks and glued it to the back of each flower. I added a little parcel string detail and set them in an old wooden beam off-cut by drilling holes with a Dremmel tool. Twizzle to desired angle!

Just one for the weekend...!

Hello Friday Lovers,

Hope everyone is doing okay and enjoying a little weekend joy. I wandered down to the shops after work for a quick meander and peek at the Festive windows, but realised I'm still waiting for a D in the month. Although I did get my first Christmas card today!!! (Thanks very much indeedily, Tracy!)

Tomorrow it's a 'working arty' day for me, getting on with commissions and DT work. All fabulous but with deadlines too... So just for tonight a quick tag to entertain the fingers and ink-pads. I'm playing along with Linda's Grungy Monday which I never get done on the said day! It's a masking, spritzing, shiny, inking thing this week. See Mr. T on stage with another retro show here.

I had to be little a bit inventive as I don't possess a single re-inker. Blush!!! They're on my toilet roll long wish list somewhere as my ink-pads are feeling slightly thirsty. Anyway, I improvised with a mist of water, drops of Lettuce and Meadow Color Wash and a good dash of Forever Red Perfect Pearls and rather like my own recipe! Then it was an exuberant stamping frenzy, followed by good old distressing, random staples, and gold thread.

And just one rusty metal corner, created with uber over heated Distress Powder and Alcohol ink.

As said, just a little playtime. I'm off to join hubby on the sofa for once, enjoy a Friday night of doing nothing and watch Children in Need on the BBC for entertainment... Make your weekend a good one and I'll be back on Monday. Cheerio and farewell my lovelies.

Hosted by Queen Bee Julia over at Stamping Ground, WOYWW? is fun, free, full of both our waffle and loveliness, open to all and the best remedy in town against the mid-week doldrums. From a blank Mojoless desk to the ultimate battle-field, everyone is welcome, so do feel free to hop on board! Plenty of room on this bus...

Well, my desk looks like it has been kidnapped by both Mr. Holtz and Gok Wan. The spread of stash is my latest DT package and the fuchsia tape gun is a B-day pressie from hubby. He ordered it on line and expected one of those mini throwaway things. So he had quite a shock when he realised we are talking military proportions. Still, it looks like a gadget, so he's more impressed with it than any inkpad or stamp...

Despite the lurgy which is still hovering, I seem to be amazingly on schedule with my big projects and design work. So I enjoyed some easy-going crafty time making two cards for Less is More where it's one layer stamping and leaves. I say easy-going but Clean and Simple cards tend to cause the opposite of their name during creation. One smudge or wonky word and you're a gonner.

These are all Wendy Vecchi stamps and the lace is stamped in Ranger Saffron Archival ink which is rather lovely.

I used masking to create a narrower lace border, added a little Distress Ink to the edges for definition and then just over stamped the flower and added a sentiment.
Just showing that Wendy's stamps can be taken down many routes. They're great sets and you don't have to do the Grungy, quirky stuff at all to enjoy them. I just happen to like both (see my previous post!)

I thought I'd also try one all in green which I like too. So that's the low down from my HQ.

Thanks for all the visits, get well and birthday wishes. I had a great day Sunday with hubby and the folks. Fabulous weather, a delicious Roast Dinner and chocolate...simples!

In the Circles of my Mind...

Monday Greetings to you all! A new week flashes a smile and so does a new theme at Simon Says Stamp & Show where it's 'Women Only'. The fairer(?) sex, Diva, mother, lass, chica, gal, sister, damsel and Queen - we can be them all! Just maybe not all on a Monday morning though... I had been down with a cold all week and only felt fit enough to tackle my DT piece late on Saturday. So inspired by a single face I let my creative muse go freestyle.

The mystery of the female mind seemed an interesting path, so I surrounded myself with a hearty array of Wendy Vecchi Art Parts, stamps and inks and let the shapes tell me where they wanted to go. Soon enough the circular shapes and curved lines were winning my attention. I figured a woman's mind must be round because our thoughts sure like to perform some serious laps...

I used many shapes from the Sample Pack, which is just brimming with potential, and started out by constructing the flower pedestal. I used a combination of Fired Brick and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks to colour them up, over stamping with Snow Cap Pigment ink or Coffee Archival ink. I really love how the Art by Number Stamp came out on the blue flower!

From there it was a process of constructing the main focus. I covered the circular frame with an old book page, inked it up and then glued the lower Art Part Leaves in place, which I've inked in Rusty Hinge. I also glued a small block of chip board to the other side of the circle. By glueing these three layers together I created more width at the base giving a more stable point I could then super glue to the pedestal.

I glued the other leaves in place and set to work on my lady who it is of course all about. I used the rather quirky but appealing Phrenology stamp from Art Rules. I stamped her onto Manila cardstock which I'd glued onto Grungeboard for extra thickness, adding some colour with Stormy Sky. I wanted to increase her feminine traits, so I added flowers stamped using the same set to create some floral hair, a Spinner pin, a little blush and lips with a crayon along with a glossy embossed starry eye. Ah, what a little make-up can do for a gal...! Then I felt that the Wings and Hands and ring could add some symbolism for the dreams, practical giftings and commitment of many a woman.

At the base I wanted to add one simple sentiment which was also destined for more circular lines. The pocket watch was just perfect in shape and mood. The desire to step out and yet the restrictions of time! I think we all know that Catch 22 story. I had a great journey.

I love being totally absorbed... it was wonderful to just sit and create in the moment, yet achieve a piece that expresses all you long to say.

I hope I can encourage you to be more spontaneous and free and to trust your own creative mood of the moment. Women Only is a fabulous theme which can be taken down so many paths. I'm looking forward to seeing your ideas on this one! Take a look at all the Design Teams really wonderful interpretations here. There's oodles of inspiration to be found!

This, that and the other...

Hello to all including the weekend!
I hope everyone out there is doing well. It's been a really dark and wet old day, a true November one. Both hubby and I are down and out with The Lurgy, but at least we weren't worried about missing out on a suntan. Hoping to upgrade to couch potato status tomorrow. I decided to have a quick dabble with a card for Linda's Grungy Monday where we delve into a retro festive Tim technique full of the joys of masking. Turned out to be a long messy affair with four experimental rejects as proof. Cards always do that to me... but I sniffed through until the end.

I wanted to play with the Season's Silhouettes set but took a while to suss out the right combo of inks, powders and card stock. I stamped Mr.Deer in Fired Brick onto white card, masked him and stamped and embossed the background with clear powder. Then I blended Peeled Paint over the top masking the little chap again.

I then melted away the embossing powder using the Faux Batik method so I could continue stamping well. I used the music stamp from the Joyful Song set using the mask and also added some snowflakes working without the mask so he has a little frost on his behind which I quite like... Then just some distressing, layering, buttons, ribbon and gold thread to finish off. I did all the masking 'old-school' Post-it note style...

and this fella saw some serious mileage, especially after all four duds. Dear me, he looks like I feel...

I almost gave up and walked away but I've now dumped the losers and am feeling slightly nostalgic, Festive and alas also rather snotty. I wouldn't mind trying this out with the new Chrimbo inks...!

What's on your Workdesk Wednesday???

Well, organised chaos a.k.a. my messy desk. 'Tis the mid week moment for confession, waffle and arty gossip combined with a flash of your desk - au naturel. Join in by heading over to Supreme Hostess Julia's... I'm on a hunt for that ever elusive perfect button and have just dumped my new stash.

On Monday I trekked way down South to LB Crafts for a Master Class with Linda Elbourne. Kicking The Dirty Habit has done wonders for Linda. She looks just fab, healthy and O, so fair-faced! We did a million techniques in a minute. Well, forty in four hours...the little box of tricks is on my desk ready for action in a Mojoless moment. Okay, lots of pics and blurb now... stroll or whizz at pleasure...

In October, I did a workshop with the fabulous Lynne Perrella. Here is the inspiring lady herself doing some PR and modelling! I had a great time. She's a true coach. She just makes you dive in and then spends quality time with everyone, challenging you to really ponder, discover and 'audition' your creative thoughts. At last, I can show you 'My Lady' who has been waiting very patiently...

It's the largest piece I've done at 32x42cm. At the start you're given a white photo-copied image and that's it! Just start. I decided on two roads. I'm a big vintage fan and wanted some familiar ground but decided to add a quirky element with unusual colours and details. Hence the purple swirly hair. And why not I say!

I started by painting the face, bringing out her features especially her eyes. She is a very alluring woman I must say... For some reason I decided on a blue tone of skin under that slight blush. Who says it has to make rational sense, as long as it works for you! Then I moved onto her clothing, hat and hair playing with layers of paint and stencilling, giving myself the freedom to be spontaneous and open to whatever whim I had.

I would never have chosen these colours if I'd have sat down and thought it all through. I'm normally terrible at workshops, start faffing around and get overwhelmed by all the other creativity. This time I stayed in my own space and thought zone and didn't walk around wondering if I was artistically 'up to scratch'. At one point I just snipped her hat off, set it at a jaunty angle and pushed her ladyship to the right. I'm liking the go with the flow thing!

Lynne's sample had a great painted background but I went with my signature layering! I had already used lots of painted detail and felt this was a better companion. There was oodles of materials and ephemera to hand, floods of the stuff and it was so great to rummage through such 'riches'.

Old books, ledger pages, fabrics, lace, doilies, flowers, feathers, ribbons and papers galore, to name but a few. Really, Lin and Leandra sure know how to put on a fine workshop. You want for nothing. I took bags of my own stuff too and by the end of the day my 'zone' was one major bomb site. Hubby walked in and said, "This must be your spot..."

I got so carried away with the playful vibe I added a 'Brussel Sprout Bag' veil for a touch of elegance before loading up the florals and vintage buttons. I even painted the shadow box in a soft dusky pink! (1980's bathroom flashbacks...) She will soon be behind glass which really finishes everything off and adds to the mystery. But just for the pics she's having an open air moment. I had such a fabulous day and came away feeling very tired yet also creatively refreshed and proud of my damsel.

She's full on feminine, a little eccentric but still very much my style, so all in all, two happy ladies.

So, an uber-long post. Is it still 2011?! I did really want to share about the whole experience! I suppose the moral of the story is to just be and trust yourself now and again... Thanks for hanging in there, even if you just like looking at the piccies!

Less but a bit more on time than usual...

Hello again,
Today I'm flitting by with my regular stint in the CAS world. I had an idea on Saturday so I went with it...just getting round to blogging it now. It's a red and orange colour theme at Less is More this week. I'd been playing around with Alcohol inks on my My Mojo Monthly projects and was liking the effects so I decided to give it a whirl on some cards.

I used Ranger Red Pepper and Butterscotch inks to colour a sheet of glossy card stock, using Blending Solution to soften the lines. I stamped Mr.Tim images in Black Stazon all over the sheet cutting out sections I liked to create an interesting (to me!) composition. I mounted them onto black card before setting them on a slightly textured cardstock.

I didn't want to add a sentiment but just enjoy the images so I went for some black lace to add a little drama and balance.

I always find it hard to make just the one, especially as I'd gotten into so much mess. This time I went for just the three squares and a lower placing of the images. I've already confessed to being a 'fine detail and close-up nutter' and I love using what I call snippets in all my work. I started off a few years back with just two ink pads and rubber stamp sets and am still in love!

I'm rather liking the smooth glossy card stock and bold colours with the white and black...

so I think that's mission accomplished! That's me all done here, back to ye olde crafty den to fight off some deadlines... Be seeing you soon, Sarah.

A Bit of Designer Trash....

The top of the morning to you!
If all goes well in both the virtual and real world this post will appear bright and early and I will be at LB Crafts in Olney doing a Ranger Masterclass with Linda Elbourne! Blogger can be a bit moody and I have a stinking cold but I'm hoping for the best... So, Monday means a new theme at Simon Says Stamp & Show where it's Recycle or Upcycle. No, that's not an exercise programme but a call to be green, creative and thrifty!

I had lots of vintage newspapers gathering dust and with Mr. Chrimble on the way I decided to create a Designer gift bag! Firstly I folded the bag into shape following the shape of a gift bag I had at home, folding over the top section to add strength. Basically you just need to create a tube, pleat the sides and fold in the bottom like you would if wrapping a present.

I used Picket Fence Distress Stain to tone down the print and give the paper a nice white tint.

Then I decided to jazz it up a bit with a recycled star and double tag. The star is made from an old toilet roll cut into five. Here's a great link on making art with your old loo rolls! I painted the star with Gesso, added Rock Candy Crackle paint and lined the inside with some fab blue Graphic 45 paper. I added a hint of colour with Stormy Sky Distress ink to the points.

l was also added strips of the same design paper to the inside of the bag for a bit of colour and contrast. I decided to go for rounded handles, not string as I thought it looked a wee bit more classy! I drew around some plates onto scrap cardboard to get the shape, then covered them with more paper and inked the edges.

Here you can see the tags which were made just like the handles were. I added a few festive stamps from Tim's Season's Silhouettes set in Ranger's Cobalt Archival ink and added some old parcel string to finish. I also put a cardboard piece into the bag bottom to support the structure. So there you go, a touch of Festive Junk! You could also make these bags from old gift paper, comics or brown paper and have a great time. They are quick, easy and quite a lot of fun!

There are so many things we have and hoard that can be transformed into something new. Take a look at the fantastic ideas from the rest of the talented Design Team here. You name it, they've done it! My Nanny...

I'm just calling by with a card I made last night. I wasn't sure if I would come up with anything so I just started with a photograph of my Nanny. Over at Grungy Monday Linda invites us to create something as a tribute to someone special who is no longer with us. That's not such an easy task to just pull out of that hat so I left things until the weekend to see how I felt, decided to just play and see what happened.

I only ever knew one Nanny. She was a headstrong and not always the easiest of ladies, but someone special who always loved and laughed, leaving me a wealth of precious memories. If I'm a bit moody of awkward then my mum says I'm just like my nanny!

Nanny was a business lady, always very well-dressed and I remember her teaching me how to blend my foundation and apply rouge as she called it. I also spent hours looking at all her huge collection of shoes, posh coats and jewellery thinking it was all so glamorous!

I thought Nanny's photo would look best on a good old fashioned vintage style card so I went to town with torn layers, lace and pretty papers. I used Kraft Glassine paper, a couple of Tim stamps and a copper Memory Frame to hold the words Live and Love which are the perfect thoughts to accompany Nanny's memory.

So just a simple offering from the heart created because I wanted to.

A Dabble a Day...

Almost Weekend!
I thought that might make us all feel better, including myself. I really wanted to play along with Less is More where it's stars and get my weekly dose of simplicity and space. I've been so busy lately, I've had to be super-quick, but this week I was determined to give it more time. I'm at home with a stomach bug, so feeling grotty and not up to much, which is a shame as I would love to be dabbling in my crafty den all day long. In between sleeping and feeling sorry for myself I got there.

I love this star stamp by Wendy Vecchi and was glad to play with it. I created a polka dotty frame which is slightly raised with foam-pads, using a big stamp by Darkroom Door. I stamped everything in Ranger Vermillion Archival ink

The base is Bazzill and I quite like how the texture shows through a little so it's not too perfect.

I actually made this one first and although I like the idea, I'm not mad on the blue and wish I'd gone for bright pink or something flashier! The frame is less raised this time and is stamped with a Wendy Vecchi stamp. Slightly more off to the left, to balance out the card. I wanted to highlight one star and thought the "1 of a kind" sentiment was just right.

I stamped an extra star and embossed it for a little sheen before sticking it on top. Just a little extra detail...

Also just one quick card for the weekly challenge at Everything Wendy Vecchi. I'm a bit late as I was totally Mojoless and feeling yuk, but came up with this simple design to use the heart theme. I thought I would combine several hearts on the corner to resemble a section of a flower.

All the busy times I mentioned were down to working on November's My Mojo Monthly which is always a labour of love. It's an inspirational feature and challenge and this month I'm really glad to have Jo Capper -Sandon as my featured artist! She's very talented and such a wonderful card designer. Why not read her interview and take a look at the project ideas...?! I've included a CAS card this month too...

There's just something very personal and artistic about Jo's work that will make you pause and linger every time! Fabulously creative, expressive and inviting... I absolutely love Jo's unique style. Colour, details, humour, nature and wonderful composition abound...

Who is Jo Capper-Sandon in five words?
A northerner living down south.
Where are you right now as an artist? Right now I feel I've hit a bit of a lull and am waiting on my next 'light bulb' moment. Hopefully it's just around the corner!
Which of your creations is closest to your heart? I have a few, all for very different reasons, but if I were to name just one I guess it would be the card I made just before Christmas last year for my Mum who had then just passed away. She was a great fan of the cards I made and had even just started going to workshops herself. It isn't the best card I've ever made, but I felt it spoke volumes reflecting the emotion and emptiness I was feeling. You can read about it on my blog here.

Where do you find inspiration when feeling Mojoless? I am greatly influenced by nature so many of my colour combinations come from things I see when pottering about the garden or looking at the sky. If that fails, I splash colour onto an A3 sheet of thick paper, swipe an ink pad over the top and see what happens. I 'm a great fan of serendipitous crafting.
You are going back-packing in the Himalayas for a year and may only take 3 crafting items. Which - and why? Well, that would never happen rofl...unless they have a series of hotels along the trail with room service and fluffy towels. But if I had totally lost the plot for a second and had been led to believe that the Himalayas was my kind of thing...

1. A Windsor and Newton field box set of watercolour pan paints that comes with a little plastic water bottle built in and a brush, those field sets are fab! Why? Well, the colours are so clear, its dinky, and any sketches can be pulled together with a quick wash of colour.
2. An 8 x 10" watercolour journal (can use as a diary, scrapbook and sketch pad. 3. Solid lead sketching pencil (the ones with no wood) great for detail and larger areas, plus a watercolour wash well for mono sketches.

Back at HQ....
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and art Jo. I am feeling very inspired...! So this month my theme is 'Changing Faces". What's that all about? Well, I thought it would be good to look at how different colours, inks and compositions can dramatically alter the mood and style of a piece...and the best way to illustrate that is by taking one style of stamps into the dressing room! I've chosen the fabulous Loverly London and London Underground set from Artistic Outpost.

MODERN. I wanted a bold look, so I started with white glossy cardstock. I applied a mix of Red Pepper, Stream and Lettuce Alcohol inks softening them with blending solution. I then stamped various images in Black Stazon ink which is the best choice for this surface. I deliberately chose male figures and buildings to emphasise the modern mood.

I then cut various pieces, mounted them on black card to create a tight-fitting collage, before gluing them to another piece of glossy cardstock.You expect the British red and blue...! The green ink is more unexpected but it works well as a contrast with the blue and red and definitely gives it a little edge. The sheen of the card and the one layer stamping adds to the clean look. A final black border sets everything off. I will eventually mount it behind glass!

VINTAGE. Here, we are in full vintage mode! Faded tones, shabby edges and lots of layers create a completely different look. I thought these two folk looked like they were having a bit of a tiff, so I went with the humour! I even added Big Ben at a jaunty angle!

I blended Distress inks onto card before stamping the Lady and Gent in Coffee Archival ink. Then I chose more images to help fill in the background, stamping the flag in Distress ink for a more faded look. Archival ink will give you a crisper image that won't bleed, Distress ink gives a much softer result. The frame is just plain cardboard cut to size, coloured with Vintage Photo Distress Stain.

I built up the layers from a stitched book page and various papers, mounting everything on an old envelope. Adding little things like buttons, string and a Memo pin with lots of distressing and inky edges give it a real shabby feel.

Monotone. We often think of Black and White but Monochrome can be the use of any one colour. I created a quick clean and simple card using just a few images and Vermillion Archival ink by Ranger. These images look right at home in red! Very patriotic. I stamped and layered the guards twice and cut the bunting from multiple stamps of the mini flag.

Just one Cheerio and I'm done! This would be a great card for someone off to study at uni in the big city! What colour would you go for?

A Stroll Down Configuration Lane...

Farewell Weekend and Greetings Monday...
Welcome to my blog and a new theme at Simon Says Stamp & Show where houses are in the house! A house can be many things but I felt drawn to the idea of a home, a dwelling place for many memories. You know what they say, "If walls had ears..." I have never played with a Configuration Box and must admit I do like to bide my time when a new trend hits town. I like to wait until an idea that's 'me' begins to whisper. See, voices in your head can be a good thing!
Let's take a stroll down Configuration Lane...

I started by ageing my twelve Configuration boxes with a thick coat of Gesso, Mushroom paint and Distress Ink. I didn't go for Tissue Tape as I wanted to see the individual 'rooms'! Then I set about filling them with an array of findings and memories, each one with her own story. If you fancy a tour, then jump on board...

Wendy words stapled onto vintage lace and fabric. The box is lined with cotton tape with an old button to finish.

A little design paper, a piece of vintage tape measure and an old lace bobbin.

A Grungepaper rose made with Tattered Florals. First I inked up the Grungepaper with Frayed Burlap, then painted it with PaperArtsy Crackle followed by Blank Canvas. Behind, a scrap of paper, a stamped word and two rusty nails... In some of the boxes I placed a layer or two of mountboard to reduce some of the depth so as not to lose the contents into the shadows and darkness!

I had an old, small fob-watch lurking in my drawer so I pulled it apart to create a keepsake locket. I used Alcohol inks to change the silver colour and then I filled it with a book page scrap, vintage lace, a tape measure scrap and a rose bud. The two tiny words are taken from Stuff to Say and the background is a piece of embossed and inked Sticky Canvas. I added a chain scrap and sat it on more vintage lace, adding a button to the corner. Onto quite a deep layered one lined with lace and a book page...

A crochet scrap, button and Glassine Paper. I cut wire supports for my butterfly adding a little typed FLY.

This one merits a larger photo, because it's my dear mum. I absolutely adore this image of her... look at those ringlets! I love it.

I scanned the original photo and cut a Mica front so it would fit inside the Ornate Plate which I have distressed with Distress Powder and Alcohol inks. I glued cut-off brads in the holes and then taped the plate to the wire which supports itself due to the tension. The background is stitched, distressed paper and I lined the bottom with lace and press-studs. Goes without saying, my favourite box...

Five rosebuds, muslin and an old pen nib. I cut two of the second smallest Tattered Florals, laid them on top of each other, then folded them in half. Then I rolled them into a cone and glued them! Added some highlights with Viva Gold.

A shallow one this time.Three vintage buttons sewn onto design paper and a Tissue Tape lining!

This one was fiddily but so worth it. Glassine Paper lines the back and a hidden column supports painted chicken wire and a thickly gessoed heart. Love the texture. I added some scrap chain and ran some Copper tape through my Dynamo for the Beloved word. I emphasised the letters with Alcohol ink and sanding, adding two old bolts to continue the metal feel. I ended up using super-glue to fix the heart (Can you do that in real life too?)

This box was great because the old clock key fitted perfectly! The background is resist stamped using White Stazon and Rusty Hinge and I layered up two punched lace strips. 'Become' was taken from here. I like taking just one word from a whole stamp - the possibilities are endless.

I love words and my vintage typewriter gives me the chance to add whatever I want. The little fern flower is Wendy's...

And finally...You just can beat the beauty of rusty, distressed metal. I stuck metal tape to card, then used the Textile folder, lots of inks and a sanding block. I aged the tag by really overheating Distress powder and adding more ink (watch out for the fizz!) Added a vintage trim and lined the box with a Bible page. The roofs are corner bracket thingys from the hardware store, again aged as before. What an amazing fit! I was very chuffed...and think they are the perfect finishing touch.

I gave my Lego away years ago so I figured I would make my own arty version! The houses are not glued together so you can play around and create your very own street! So there you go, my houses. It was a big task but one that brought a lot of joy and satisfaction. I hope you feel inspired to play with your Configgy boxes too. I was literally thinking outside the box.

Even my hubby joined in...this is his take on Venice! How fab is that? I might let him make next weeks piece! That's enough boxes for a while for me, I'm only into ones full of chocolate for the rest of this week...

A little bit of ink and shiny stuff...

Have you got that Friday feeling? Glad it's the weekend, ready to indulge in all the nice stuff and have a ball... but feel so tired you quite fancy staying in bed until Monday? Well, if you do I'm on your side. Life seems full on, on all levels, at the mo, and I can't wait for a free day to just faff and chill! That being said, I still wanted to join in at Grungy Monday. Perfect Distress is on the menu, see the top chef Tim here!

I love the stamp set Floral Tattoo It has an appealing hand carved, slightly primitive look but I don't use it enough so I dug them out and just dived in! The background is Stormy Sky, over-stamped with Barn Door to which I applied Forever Red Perfect Pearls.

I added more stamping with Dusty Concord and again Stormy Sky. The birds are stamped in Black Archival and the sentiment in Ranger Plum Archival. I added more Barn Door to the edges and a lace tie to finish.

Felt like trying out some more tones so went for a second one! The background is Peeled Paint and the over-stamping in Barn Door to which I applied Perfect Gold, continuing with Chipped Sapphire and more Peeled paint. The birdies are again black and the words in Ranger Cobalt for a difference in tone to the black but still strong. I inked the edges with Stormy Sky to give it a boost and added a black lace tie.

A dark, frosty night means shots from my crafty den but it's hard to pick up the glitter & glam! Here's a little bit that was willing to sparkle!

So there you go, some inky gossip from me. I'm working on my new My Mojo Monthly projects so a busy weekend ahead. I love all the entries so far, it'll be tough to choose a winner! There's still a few days to enter October's challenge here, where it's all about creative surfaces (could be my craft mat...) What's on your workdesk Wednesday and GIVEAWAY!

WOYWW? Well, that would be anything I can get on it... It's a bit of mine-field in my crafty den at the mo as the week is just running away with me and several deadlines are looming... the floor, chairs and other bedrooms are feeling the brunt of it too with little piles of stuff popping up like mole-hills. I am running out of "just putting it there for now" options - fast!

DT work and Novembers My Mojo Monthly have me in their grip so my Lynne Perrella Lady from last week will have to sit pretty for now. However, I'm now the owner of a new Big Shot. Hubby found it, untouched, in the QVC outlet store. Just £40 for the starter kit as opposed to £75 so a shrewd buy. Dabbling with the new tool ended up in some uber-quick Less is More cards!

This weeks it's polka dots so I went for the textural type. Here I was testing out the free heart die...

Getting into all the new recipe and sandwich jargon. Until now I used an Epic Six from Quickutz but the need to upgrade was upon me, so a welcome bargain indeed! There was also free flower die but I figured it could also pass for a snowflake! A quick Chrimbo card just doesn't get much simpler than this!
Love creating with dots and wish I could have played longer but seeing as those deadlines are nipping at my ankles...

Short and sweet cards it just had to be. It was still a welcome change of scene yesterday from the complex stuff.

Whilst I was creating those new mole-hills of stuff I came across two simple but pretty printed canvas bags I had bought back in April. Still in the plastic bag doing zilch. So I thought I'd give them away and let someone else use them. Fill 'em with junk, love or crafty stash - just use them!!! If you can give them a home, just leave a comment and I'll post them off next week!

Walking in a Wendy Wonderland...

Hello!
The Monday mornings keep on coming and I for one am very glad as it means a new challenge over at Simon Says Stamp & Show! This week it's One Colour, Any Colour... There's no denying it... the gloves are out, the evenings darker and the shops bursting with Festive Frivolity. The first frosty mornings led me to my 'colour' choice of winter white.

l have a healthy collection of Wendy Vecchi Art Parts and after playing around on my desk I decided there were some great shapes and elements for a dimensional framed hanging. I really wanted to achieve a white look but had to figure out how to do it without everything looking really bare and bland...

I used quite a few different ones including the Leaves, Floral and Flower sets. You won't use them all on one piece, so you'll find one small bag of Art Parts can go a long way, especially if you mix and match. I love building them up in layers to create dimension and there's always a great sentiment in every set. I've used the book-plate as the central focal point...

I prepped the Art Parts with Ranger Snow Cap Pigment ink and then swiped them with Mushroom paint to tone down the whiteness. I then used lots of my background stamps to add some details I stamped in White Stazon. It's not the easiest detail to capture on camera, but stamping does make a huge difference to the feel and look of the whole piece.

I sanded all the edges and lightly inked them with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink just to pick up on a little of the stamped detail and to give the piece a little more depth... I really like the effect and although it started as a wintery theme, I think it would work all year round! I finished off the flowers with some inky washers and upholstery studs. I just could not resist a butterfly, so I stamped and cut out a Wendy one from Sticky-Back canvas which takes paint so well...

Tim in Ten...

Hello Saturday Blogettes,
Just some dabblings from the world of inky stuff. I was really happy when I saw Linda's theme for Grungy Monday this week.Tim Cards in Ten. I love making cards and love making them quick. Be spontaneous and go with the flow! Sometimes you end up with something much better than if you faff all day! I also love to dive into my scrap box and see what beauties are just waiting for their day. I felt a shabby mood coming on so I started with Kraft cardstock which I love.

Then a swish of white from my dabber followed by some torn Tissue tape. I then stamped the Papillon butterfly onto a piece of Kraft Glassine and stitched it onto the card with a book page scrap underneath. A length of twine, stamped words, a button and inky edges...I'm done!

Just some overlapping and simple layering. Although it's shabby I'm still thinking about the vertical and horizontal focal lines crossing at right angles. I've been doing lots of colour this week so I enjoyed being back in the Sepia zone..

It's so quick to put together so I grabbed some more scraps and went for another...Again just playing and not thinking for too long. I've got lots of off-cuts from the Tattered Florals die and they can look really good placed on the edge of something...cards, an art journal page or layouts...

I stamped the LOVE WISH DREAM onto a scrap of dress pattern paper to get a translucent effect and just stapled it to the card. More twine, but off-centre and sewn through the card. I'm mad on string, thread and twine - use it on almost on everything! Again a button for a little colour and interest and all done. I hope you like them and might feel inspired to raid your scrap box too! Have a wander through Tim's blog too and see what you can do in ten...

Cockails? Ice, scissors and a twist of humour...

Chilly Thursday Greetings!

This week at Less is More it's Cocktails...I'll start by confessing that I was thinking of skipping this week. I was tired from a weekend away, feeling uninspired and could only think of cherries and deadly potions. Not a great combination, with a distinct lack of anything cocktailish in my stash. But the colours kept inviting me to play and before you know it, you're off on a whim...

l really liked Chrissie's bird take on the theme and figured if I can't stamp it or I ain't got it, I'll just have to improvise... I decided to exploit my snipping obsession of cutting out and went in search of a rooster outline which I found on a kiddies site here!

I reduced it in size and printed it out on the back of various coloured Bazzill cardstock. That meant I wouldn't see the ink on the right side and it also made all the fellas end up looking to the right which is just what I wanted...handy! I found the perfect shade of ric-rac lurking in my ribbon-rage bag and a Wendy Vecchi stamp was the finishing touch (second card attempt on view due to a last minute skid...sigh.)

l thought I was done, but had such fun I was up for another. I went through pigs, parrots and umbrellas but suddenly thought that the Playboy logo might be a good candidate to audition. Once teamed up with the PaperArtsy Rock Star stamp it seems to have more of a party feel to it. Celebrities, bunny girls, wild nights and all that!

Just all a bit of creative fun...the roosters and bunnies do make me laugh so I'm happy and very glad I didn't walk away. So that was that. Just need to tidy up now because I had to go through every single folder to find that last stamp...
So just one word, thought, colour, image or mood can give that push - they all count. Have a great evening and hold on, it's Friday tomorrow!

What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday???

The usual state of chaos is on show today. I've even resorted to putting my grotty old craft mat on top of the new one! I've been playing with paint and getting it everywhere. I just don't do tidy during a session...

As told last week, I spent the weekend up North at the Artsy Crafty Lynne Perrella workshop. I had a really fabulous day and for once was really pleased with my piece. Here's a sneaky peek! I'm just finishing up a little Botox work. I'll tell you more gossip and will show her in all her glory next week.

In the meantime, here's a fun piece I made for the Wendy Vecchi Challenge. You might need shades! It's a leaves theme over at Hel's Sunday Stamper so...

I seem to have spent the summer drowning in Sepia and now, as we approach winter, I'm having a full on colour phase. It was a sewing theme which I've taken quite literally.

I decided to work with canvas and paint as opposed to paper and ink. They are pretty wacky colours indeed, but I still think they work and I'm liking the white a lot.

The white somehow balances out all the vibrant colour and gives your eye a rest. The frame is also from Wendy and adds a nice solid touch and contrast in materials.

I used Artists unbleached canvas which is readily available from most good fabric stores. I primed the whole canvas piece with a wash of gesso to give the paints a base to cling on to. I used a brayer to apply paint to my stamps so I could get some more texture. Set it all on a canvas covered with colour washed book pages. As said, just fooling around with colour and being brave!

Whatever you are...

Good Morning,
The weekend did but wink and she was gone! Well, so it seems. I was in Warrington enjoying a fabulous workshop with Lynne Perrella and here I am already, back home, creeping into Monday morning as I type! I shall dive straight in with the low-down. At Simon Says Stamp & Show, we want to see your Stripes! I grabbed some delicious Glitz papers, some scrap cardboard and created a full on girly shadow bow.

I wanted to just simply play with bright colours, dimension and butterflies, so I ran with it... Is it too sweet or cute? Will folk wonder if I've gone a bit doo-lally with my feminine side? Well, it doesn't matter. I was feeling Girly. So be bold and stay true to yourself, I say!

I used some strong cardboard to create the frame which means I can chose the dimensions, very handy indeed! Here you can see the back piece already covered in Love Nest striped paper, the frame and I'm just starting to make the supporting 'walls' with cardboard strips and cardstock hinges.

Then onto 15 Wendy Vecchi flutteries. I stamped them, cut them out and inked up the reverse side.

Of course you can use a die but I am woman of few dies and I just love this shape! You could use the same idea with flowers, Christmas stockings or even little animals if you wanted to create something for a child's room. Love how Distress Inks can change everything. I added a few simple words to some butterflies with my trusty, handy typewriter. I chose different people but you could use a saying, a song, a poem or prayer. Playing with words is such great fun.

The flowers are punched circles cut from the same paper as the frame but they have been distressed and darkened with Rusty Hinge. The centres are upholstery studs - just cut the long bit off before sticking! On the butterflies I used a lot of Stormy Sky and Bundled Sage to get the right shades and variation in tone.

To finish off I added just one simple but strong sentiment from Afternoon Muse by Glitz. The frame had been lightly sanded and aged with Vintage Photo.

I love the bright yellow colours of the frame and the individual butterflies so I didn't want to add anything more.

The butterflies are mounted on very small foam pads which aren't visible so they seem to float. Here's a quick peek from the side so you can see a bit more of the depth.

So there you go, a simple idea for a shadow box... How about a huge one with say 99 Grungy butterflies? There's a challenge for you...

Un Petit Peu Spooky...

Hello to both you and Friday!
For once it seems to have come around quite fast which is just dandy in my book as I have a great weekend ahead! I'm off to the Artsy Crafty Weekend to savour the artistic talent of Lynne Perella. Saturday crafting, Sunday lazing in a luxury hotel with hero hubby... but first a swift inky tale. I don't normally do anything Halloween at all... just not into it. I may have run around in a black bin liner as a kid, but that was it...! But seeing as the colours are so inviting and Linda is back from beyond with Grungy Monday, celebrating All Things Mr. Holtz, well...just this once then.

So this is my take on things. Just some simple inking, scrunching, more ink, stencilling and stamping. Here I've used Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade inks and the big birdie is from Artful Flight. Can't get enough of random stitching!!! Here's a close-up of Mr. Birdy's feet and some wrinkles I'm not afraid to show...

I stamped him in Ranger Plum Archival which is a change from black or brown and great with these warm tones...

So, let's crack open the purple and orange spectrum, which you can safely get away with for this theme. Loving the contrast but don't think it'll be a regular of mine...Don't have the Seasonal Inks but Dusty Concord and Spiced Marmalade make a top duo.The stamped tree and birds are from Mini Ornates.

Added words and numbers from Stuff To Say, picking out some extra words and adding more random stitching. Dyed ties made from cotton strips and staples finish the job. Just some simple inky tags and colour play before the weekend start. Joining in with:

Well, procrastination I'd say...I was supposed to be cleaning that pile of stamps in the background but I got side-tracked thinking about WOYWW and ended up building a little L'Art de Julia, the Hostess with the Mostess of the mid-week desk hop. A hairline crack in my project schedule, means I can at last indulge in my 15 minutes of fame. I'm Blog of the Month in Craft Stamper magazine!! I'm really thrilled to be featured and amazed that my waffle has been published. But moreover, incredibly grateful to all my visitors, followers and friends that make it all possible. Huge thanks to everyone who looks, listens and gets it...it would be a sad party without you!

This week I'm sharing two quick cards for Less is More, which is my weekly therapy after all the intense fiddily-diddily Design Team stuff (see blue journal on the left of my blog...!) . It's one layer stamping and hearts this week. I stamped a Wendy Vecchi background stamp through a hand-drawn template and that was that really!

Love this technique. I used it back in September to create a set of French notelets. It's a great idea for breathing new life into unused or forgotten stamps.

This second card is slightly flasher, but I'm loving the trio of colours!

Inspired by Wipso and Twiglet's amazing sewing and sainthood, I made two dresses for the Dressing a Girl around the World project. I'll be sending them off to hostess Louise tomorrow, see her blog for all the details.They really are easy to make and I think pillow cases and used fabric like getting a second chance, they're so soft and giving...

Finally, I just want to share a lovely gift I received from Wendy as part of a PIF project. It's so sweet, full of colour with an amazing concertina centre with tags! I love it, thank you so much Wendy! Well, that was more like the annual report, but that was my life since last week! I shall love you and leave you...Thanks for calling by!
